A human sized hole has replaced the window’s formerly intact glass. The hole is perfectly circular like it was cut from a laser. The pit of fury cooking in my stomach has become searing hot. Instead of feeling relieved that Kai is here I only feel angrier. His pretty face exacerbates my rage. Silently I mouth to him, “You are dead.” He imitates fear recoiling. Reverting to seriousness he touches a finger to his lips signaling me to be quiet. In a literal flash Blue appears next to me with a gun pressed against my temple. Great, now he has teleportation skills too. “Don’t move,” he warns Kai. “You said you weren’t going to hurt me,” I remind him. “I lied,” he drawls. “Drop your weapons,” he commands harshly. Kai slowly places his gun on the floor, but his face is completely devoid of any fear. In fact the corner of his mouth is uplifted in a grin as he looks up at Blue. “Up against the wall,” Blue says. Kai backs up and places his hands against the wall. “You’ve caused a lot of trouble for the alliance,” he says overly calm. “It’s taken six years, but now I’ve finally got you right where I want.” Throughout Blue’s victory speech he keeps the gun pressed to my head. With quick precision Blue replaces the gun’s cold touch with a cold metal object against my temple. “What did you do?” my voice emerges panicked. “I just ensured Kai won’t try any monkey business.” The cold metal object digs into the skin of my temple threateningly. “Make one wrong move, take one extra breath, and your girl here is killed by electric shock.” “Oh yeah?” Kai asks as if he’s truly intrigued.
Kai turns around slowly earning a surprised and slightly fearful look from Blue. “What the hell are you doing?” he barks. Kai lowers his head with a smirk and maintains eye contact with Blue. A Blue hand reaches for a wristwatch smacking it hard. “She’s dead,” he snarls. My heart stops and I wait expecting an electrifying pain. But the shock never comes. Blue whips his gun at Kai, but the only sound that ensues is the empty click of a gun. Kai bends over slapping his thighs in a fit of laughter. He points a finger at Blue. “I have waited six years to see that stupid expression on your face,” he laughs. Blue tosses the gun aside once realizing that Kai has somehow tampered with all his weaponry. I flinch in horror as Blue’s skin flares out like a porcupine with Blue needle like fur. Kai’s playful expression turns dark and equally as menacing. He whips out a gun ready to attack. Blue’s fur is pelted with dozens of tiny bullets which seem to have no effect on him. His blue fur serves as a type of armor and deflects them. He knocks away Kai’s gun and grabs him by the shirt, flinging him against the wall. Kai groans at the impact of his fall. Blue grabs Kai again by his neck and lifts him high into the air. Kai’s face turns blue and the wiring connected to him begins to run through his face. His solid and capable hands attempt to pry Blue’s away, but to no avail. The blue needlelike skin pierces Kai, in a manner I assume to be very painful.
Suddenly my bonds are cut free and the tiny bark of a robot dog greets me.” Gizmo!” I whisper excitedly. Gizmo flies around cloaking himself with invisibility. His presence slips past Blue unnoticed and he manages to retrieve the cast away gun. I grab the gun from Gizmo’s light and seize my opportunity while Blue’s back is turned. Unexpectedly a cluster of Blue needles shoot out pinning me to the chair again. “Do you also have eyes in the back of your head?!” I yell exasperated. The sharp needles irritate my skin igniting an itchy sensation. “Just really good senses,” he snarls not turning to face me. Somehow my shaky hands managed to hold onto the gun. Without hesitating I shoot a barrage of bullets at the needles holding me. Blue growls and drops Kai then turns to face me. Kai falls limply to the floor, no longer conscious. My face becomes a mask of determination. There is no way in hell I am letting some rude ass alien kill me. The bullets were enough to irritate him into releasing me, but they still weren’t enough to injure him.
As he runs toward me I run toward him. His hand reaches to punch my face but I avoid it by ducking. Angrily, I stab his wild skin ignoring the needles. I feel the gun’s nose hit the skin of his foot, and he stumbles away in pain. The skin’s armor reacts in turn shrinking from the pain. Refusing to let him recover I swing my arm ruthlessly. The gun has been repurposed to hit him, and it’s surprisingly efficient. I smack his face forcefully with the gun and push through the tangle of needles. They shrink away and I hear the satisfying crack of his jaw bone. Blue grunts miserably, my strike rendering him speechless. His body is no longer protected by the self-made armor, leaving his clothes torn and him exposed. Kai’s still body begins to stir and awaken. As I prepare myself to deliver a final blow Blue’s body flickers out of sight. “Hey!” I scream. “You want to play dirty?” I yell. I keep my gun cocked for any sign of him, but he fails to appear.
“He’s gone,” Kai’s voice coughs out. I rush over to him relieved. Despite the fact that all of this is all his fault, I’m still glad he’s alive. The redness has begun to fade away and his face reverts to its normal tone. Crouching beside him, I grab his face without thinking. My hands gently persuade him to tilt his face up, exposing his neck. His prominent adam's apple throbs as he swallows timidly. Wow, this is the first time I've ever felt his face. Let me tell you, his bone structure is flawless. He doesn’t offer any resistance, seeming too humiliated to protest. An ugly collection of red marks, formed by Blue’s feathery hands have dotted his neck. “I thought you were going to rescue me,” I chide him. He sits up coughing and rubs his neck. Gizmo hovers next to us whimpering. “You did well Gizmo,” I praise him. The dog yips happily in reply. “Can I have my gun back,” Kai rasps. I shoot him a stern look. “Not until you tell me who that was.” Kai averts his eyes from mine, uncharecteristically ashamed. “That was my dad,” he mumbles.
