✧──────✦ kang sumin was officially open for business. she decided that in order to get over he who shall not be named, she must first broaden her horizons.

first on the list was dealing with whatever excessive reliance she had on him. sumin would hate to completely cut him from her final months of high school, so limiting thinking about him would be good enough for now. if things ended well with jugyeong, he should be over the moon and wouldn't need her as a shoulder to cry on.

she needed a few days to recuperate over heartbreak, and her parents gave her exactly that. since sumin was supposedly 'bed ridden and disgustingly sick,' she was confined to room arrest for a week until confirmed by a third hand source that she was better.

throughout the week, she'd received texts and calls from her friends asking if she was alright and how sujin wouldn't give them intel because it wasn't their business. she liked having her own personal guard dog.

at the very top of her recent messages, were the dots that signaled that person was typing. for minutes she'd waited until seojun sent the text, but eventually stuffed her phone under the bed and pulled out a textbook.

sumin would focus on moving on, but for now she needed something to occupy her for the week. turns out that she really enjoyed science.

at night, sujin would sneak in and fill her in on everything going on with the classmates. not even once had she spoken about suho and his antics, and she thought maybe they were walking on a similar road to independence together.

after a week of the same daily schedule consisting of meal times on the hour, sumin was finally back on campus.

chorong and the others surrounded her before she'd even stepped through the gates. it felt like an interrogation when they cornered her into the back of the school. they pulled up a desk for her to sit on while they folded their arms and stood looking down on her.

"how've you guys been?" she asked with a smile.

they broke down the bad guy act and sat down on their own chairs. "don't worry about us, we thought you were dead!"

"dead? from what?" sumin laughed at them.

"you didn't answer any of us for an entire week!" they'd all synced up and pointed at their messages that were left unopened by her. "we thought seojun was going to go insane if you were gone for another day."

she scoffed, "i was busy studying." the group of boys gasped and looked at each other. "and he'd survive without me, it was only a week."

"kang sumin... studying?!"

"i don't get good grades from just sitting around! cut me some slack." sumin complained, betrayed by their reactions.

the bell rang from inside the school and the group pushed their chairs and desk to the side and made their way to class. they bid each other farewell as they separated into their different classes.

sumin waved to the girls she'd shared a tent with and sat in her seat. their home room teacher passed out papers and said some stupid inspirational quote before leaving the room.

sumin stared at the paper. she in her final year this year and had to begin university soon. what did she even want to do? after graduation, she'd be an adult. a tax paying, job working adult. once she left the house, she'd have to pay rent and utilities all while keeping up with loan payments for her tuition.
