Efi stroked her fingers across the tall , stone walls on either side of her . They were so tall, when Efi looked up she could only see a sliver of light . She waited patiently . Efi knew what this was . She was being tricked , someone attempting to frighten her in the walls of her own skull .
It had been done in ancient Estra, when citizens would step out of line , they would disappear . Locked up in a small room and tormented . It was cruel.
Another turn. She had turned twenty four times now. Why had she been put in a maze? Efi was considering this when she heard a noise behind her . An animal? Some metaphorical monster of Efi's deepest fears?
She swung around , instantly grabbing the boys neck and slamming it into the wall. He clawed at her hands while Efi simply stared at him. She leaned in slightly , wanting to emphasise her words as much as possible .
