Chapter 2:

Evangeline PoV:

Now:

I had been driving for a few hours by now when I saw the "Welcome to Beacon Hills" sign. Excitement bubbled up in me. I was excited to have a supernatural free life. Even if I was a phoenix I had gotten so used to hiding it that I practically felt human. That was what I was going to be here. human. I would start over. No supernatural drama. No vampires. No attention seeking twin sisters. No werewolves and most importantly No Death.

As I drove through the town I couldn't help but admire everything. It was the same feeling I used to get before all of the supernatural drama entered our lives. It felt like home. My apartment was in the centre of the town which meant I got to scope out the area. There was a lot of nature around the place which I loved. Driving on the main road I saw lovely little shops and boutiques. When my eyes were darting about the place I also noticed a little diner called "Janie's" that looked like a good place to eat. It reminded me of a more country Mystic Grill. Everything around the town seemed to be quite dated but I couldn't help the smile that took over my face because of it loving the character that came along with the place.

After a few more minutes of driving I finally arrived at my apartment complex. It was small and had about 6 apartments in it max. Excitement coursed through me. I was on the top floor making it very difficult for me to get all my boxes upstairs. It was a one bedroom apartment that was small yet cosy. Luckily my parents had left me money after they passed so I could afford an apartment. After looking around the place I finally started to move my things in. It took the rest of the day but all of my stuff was set up. There were still bits and bobs but I could just do those tomorrow. That day I fell asleep with a smile on my face, happy to finally have a place I could call home.

Next Day:

When I woke up I quickly got dressed ready to start the day. Once I was showered and dressed I thought about what I would have to do today. I knew that I had to enroll into the High School here and since it was Sunday there wouldn't be any students around. There was also the fact that I would have to get a job since I only had enough money for two months rent. My thoughts were interrupted by my stomach rumbling. As I headed to my kitchen I quickly changed course realising that I didn't have any food here. As I got down to my car my brain racked for places to eat until I remembered that diner "Janie's" I had passed on the way to my apartment.

_____

I pulled up to the diner. It was a little rustic place that seemed to be a little dated just like most things in this town but I couldn't help but think it gave it more character. As I got out of my car I took in the look of the diner. It had dull white walls that looked like they hadn't been painted for a few years. The room was a maroon colour that matched the door and windows. Outside there were little flower beds at every window filled with sunflowers. The grass looked freshly mowed. As I walked in I couldn't help but notice the welcome sign above the door.

Trailing my eyes around the diner I saw that most of the furniture resembled the outside colour scheme. The walls were a baby blue and the floor was maroon and white checkered. The counter and kitchen were at the other end of the restaurant facing the entrance. The chairs were white and the tables were maroon. There was an old fashioned jukebox in the corner and different albums and pictures on the wall. I noticed that there were also some Sunflowers on the tables and counters. I was already obsessed with the place it gave off a bright and comforting aura which made me smile. There were tons of different groups around the diner. Some teenagers, others elderly people or just normal men and women going to work. I scoped the area for a seat when I came across one at the corner of the diner next to the wind. As I walked over to the table something caught my eye. It was a poster that said 'Now Hiring!' With information on the job. My eyes lit up at the possibility of getting a job. My eyes quickly scanned over the poster and I decided to talk to someone after I ate. With that thought I walked over to the table and waited for someone to take my order.

After a few minutes of skimming the menu and waiting, a petite woman with honey blonde hair and big blue doe eyes waltzed over with a beaming smile. She was wearing a plain black shirt, light wash denim jeans and a maroon apron tied around her waist. She looked to be a few years older than I was, maybe 19 or 20. She looked at me with a smile still on her face.

"Hi, what can I get 'cha?" She chirped.

"Umm... Could I have pancakes with maple syrup and a fruit salad." I ordered giving her a friendly smile back at the welcoming girl.

She jotted it all down on her notepad and with a quick nod she left to put in the order. I waited in silence noticing how I must have gotten here early because within a few minutes the whole diner had been filled. It was clearly a popular place for tons of different people from ages 14 - 90 surrounded the place. I got bored quite quickly and was about to look down and play on my phone when something caught my eye. Two boys stumbled into the door single file around the age of 16 they seemed to be so engrossed in their conversation that they didn't notice the full tables or the eyes on them.

The first teenager had a brown buzz cut & moles on his face. He looked very uncomfortable with his back arched in a slight hunch and one of his hands in his jean pocket whilst the other was flailing around whilst he talked. Due to my phoenix abilities I could see his aura and tell he was human however he wasn't the one who caught my eye. The other teenager had messy chestnut brown hair and a slightly uneven jawline wearing a lopsided smile on his lips. He seemed to be 2-3 inches taller than the other. From where I was I could see he was clearly Latino. Whilst both of the boys seemed to be awkward you could tell he was much better at hiding it. The first boy had honey brown eyes whilst the other had gorgeous dark brown almost black eyes. He had a lot more muscle on him compared to his scrawny friend.

I couldn't help but admire the second boy discreetly scanning him up and down. His smile made him look like a happy puppy, the twinkle in his eyes. Before I could admire him further I noticed something strange. He wasn't human. He was supernatural, not a vampire, or witch/untapped witch. His aura was a very faint werewolf aura but it seemed different, more tainted and unnatural. My eyes widened as I realised he must have been a different species of werewolf. It was the only logical answer.

No. No, not again. I felt like the air in my lungs was being pulled out by an invisible force. I couldn't go through this pain again. I couldn't handle more supernatural beings; it was too much. I wanted to go back. Back to when I thought I was human. Back to when my only problem was getting a good grade. All of my past thoughts were gone in a second. Only one thought remained and it was to get out of the diner. Without so much as a word I packed my stuff up, put my CV on the counter and left. I wasn't getting caught up in that supernatural drama again. Never again. Hopefully with my swift exit they wouldn't even notice me.

Third PoV:

That wasn't the case however as Stiles and Scott had both noticed the mystery the minute they set foot in the diner. At first they didn't think anything suspicious. That was however until her swift exit when she caught sight of them and as their eyes bored into the back of the girls head. They noticed she seemed lost in thought and in a hurry. They looked at each other and had a silent conversation. 'They were gonna find out who she was and why she was here.' As the boys watched the girl they didn't know what drama their questions would unfold. They didn't know how much pain she would bring and the only question that would be in their minds soon was 'was it worth it?'
