Once upon a time there was a beautiful princess who was known throughout nations for her immense beauty.
She was said to be so beautiful that when she looked at her reflection in the river stream, it would slow down to admire her and that flowers would blossom in her mere presence.
But to all her beauty there was a down side, princess Amahle had a paranoia of losing her beauty and no longer being the most beautiful in all the lands. It is said that the princess underwent 50 different treatments, therapies, rituals a day, all in attempts to maintain and preserve her unreal beauty. Her looks became of religion, a divinity worshiped and praised.

Amahle only grew in beauty as she aged but this only made her even more paranoid and anxious about losing her features. So the princess decided she was going to run away and visit a juju woman and ask her to make her beauty infinite.
Now, apart from the princesses fear of losing her beauty, it had also inevitably made her self-centered and arrogant. The only reason people put up with her was because she was an addictive sight to behold. Amahle only had one friend, one of the servants that was her age and grew up alongside her, he was her best friend, Kumi. He was the only one who saw the beauty beneath her mutated ego. Kumi loved her but never told her as he feared that she would see him as not good enough for her, he felt insecure and inferior.

He tried to stop her, attempting to profess all the beauty he saw within her but it wasn't enough, she was obsessed with being the most beautiful princess to have ever lived.
She went to the juju woman and the women agreed but there was a twist, only if the princess truly felt that she was the most beautiful thing in creation could she obtain eternal beauty. Amahle thought that she was the most beautiful creature in the world so she agreed in an instant but feelings are where the witch tricked her. See the witch had sensed that Kumi had been there the entire time, spying on her to make sure she was okay. She had felt the connection between them and had known that they were in love.
When one is in love, your lover becomes your definition of beauty. And so although the princess thought she was the most beautiful, her heart felt that Kumi was of the most inner beauty. A part of her obsession stemmed from wanting to be as timelessly beautiful as he lovingly was.

So the spell was cast and princess Amahle woke up like it was all a dream. It was the day of her coronation and she had been the first one up in the entire castle, possibly the entire land too. She wore a dress with jewels and gems of every kind, sown together with gold itself. She was excited and couldn't wait for the entire land to see her new everlasting beauty.
She looked in the mirror and marvelled at her newly polished beauty, it gave her the feeling you get looking at the stars, the one where you can't turn away because it's such a pleasure to look at yet you only leave because you know it will always be there.
Her father entered her room to proudly marvel at his daughter and to ensure she was ready to begin the proceedings but as soon as he lay eyes on her he couldn't help but just stare at his hexingly gorgeous daughter. He did so without talking or saying a word. Eventually the princess began to panic as her father wouldn't respond to her nor look away, he wouldn't blink, talk, move, only breathe and stare at her with a look of entranced adoration.
Her father finally responded, he closed his eyes but when he opened them he couldn't see a thing.
The king had gone blind because of looking at his daughter.
The king cried out loud and the princess's mother rushed towards the sound of her husband. When she entered the room she too was immediately stricken with Amahle's beauty. Her mother stared at her in adoration despite her husbands dismay but looked at her in the same way her father did before he lost his vision. After a while she too went blind.
Guards heard Amahle and her parents cries, and rushed to the blinding horrors. The princess realized that the spell was the cause of her parents blindness and warned the guards not to enter her room or look at her. So she covered herself in veil and hid her face and went to the juju women's lair but when she went there everything had vanished but a letter which read:
"Your beauty has blinded you so it will blind others so you may see beyond yourself. I've cast a spell that will indeed make you the most beautiful princess to have ever lived as every eye that sees you will eternally remember your face, it will be the last thing they ever see. Because you lied about who you felt was the most beautiful person in creation, you've lost that person to that which you lied for. The curse can only be broken by true loves kiss and you've sold your true love for love of yourself."

The king's soldiers searched the entire land for the juju woman and for Kumi but it was as if they vanished into thin air.

And so the princess's overwhelming beauty had become a curse and she was forced to live far away from people in a distant tower built just for her. Amahle never looked at herself again as her looks reminded her of how she lost all the beauty from her life.
