After Sister Stella told us about the speech we had to give, I had serious plans of skipping a few assembly sessions though I’d get punished for that. Addressing a huge crowd wasn’t really my cup of tea. But that doesn’t make me a bad leader. I have led my Basketball team and the results we got were great.
But a leader doesn’t give up. Right? So I made up my mind to get over my fear no matter how difficult it got. I had to talk to Kaaya and get some help.
As we walked out, I caught up with Ridhay and decided to have a talk with him.
“Hey Ridhay, are you gonna tell Risha about it?” I asked, hoping he’d say yes, so that I wouldn’t have to go through the talking.
“I was going to ask you the same thing. I mean, she loves being on the council and all. It’ll be hard for me to say it alone. I was hoping maybe you, Abhay and I, all three of us could tell her,” he replied. I wanted to scream ‘what the hell? Are you dumb? It’s a dumb idea’, but I didn’t.
“I don’t think that’s a good idea,” I said.
“What’s not a good idea?” Abhay Bhaiyya asked, joining our conversation.
“You tell him,” Ridhay said looking at me.
“No! You tell him! It was your idea!” I said.
“But,” Ridhay started but when I narrowed my eyes at him, he said, “Fine.” I breathed a sigh of relief. He then told Abhay Bhaiyya what the idea was. For that he responded by laughing. Both Ridhay and I gave him a confused look.
“Relax! I’ll do the talking!” Bhaiyya said. I smiled at him and Ridhay looked as if a massive weight was removed from his shoulders. Was he scared of her or something? Or didn’t he want to hurt her? God knows. Why do I care anyway? I had other things to care about! Writing up a speech, for instance! Oh crap! I better find Kaaya!
“Okay boys. I have something to do. Bye,” I said.
“Kaaya!” I yelled as I saw her talking to someone. She looked at me and gave me a grin and walked towards me.
“Ishu!” Kaaya said, pulling me into a hug. Why the sudden happiness, I thought. Did I miss out something when I was called to meet the principal? Never the less, I returned the hug and smiled at her.
“You will not believe what just happened!” she said beaming.
“Tell me and only then will I be able to tell you if I believe it,” I said.
"Kishan asked me to be his girlfriend!” she squealed, jumping like a little kid whose parents just brought her candy. I was really glad to know that he finally managed to man up and ask her.
“That’s wonderful,” I genuinely smiled at my best friend who finally had her wish come true.
“Unbelievable, right?” she asked. I shook my head and said, “Actually, that was believable. Know why?” with a smirk plastered to my face.
“Is it really what I’m thinking?” she asked with an eye brow raised.
"Depends on what you’re thinking,” I said.
“I’m thinking you had something to with this.”
“Nope, I don’t have anything to do with this.”
Actually, I knew that he was going to ask her to be his girlfriend a long time ago. I mean, they’ve known each other since they started school. Also, they had been going on dates and I remember that long message which she had sent me after the ice-cream date they had been to. It was obvious by that message that she liked him. So I showed it to him and turned out he really liked her too.
