Night of Monday, November 8

"MI-KAY-LA."

"I'm coming!" she shouted from the top of the stairs. Expecting to be in great trouble by the time She'd reached the bottom, She was already turning off her devices to give away for punishment.

Her dad laughed, "No, no, that's not what we called you down for."

"but how'd she know-" spoke her younger brother Kalvin.

"Quiet Kal," she responded rapidly,
"What's going on?"

"It's a package waitin fo' ya out front," said her step-mother Tonya, cigarette in hand, keeping her eyes on the television screen. She took a puff, "Go on outside and get it."

Mikayla believed her stepmother had a distaste for her, so she felt as though all of this was nothing but a joke, the two of them never really got along. She looked at her father for reassurance, he smiled, shrugged his shoulders and made way for the empty seat on the couch. Makayla sighed, She opened the front door from a great distance and her face filled with joy at what she'd layed her eyes on.

"Jaylon!" she screamed, jumping into his grip.

"Beautiful!" he replied, "Hi, Mr and Mrs Jeffrey."

"Hello—Hey there." they answered in synch.

"What are you doing here?" Mikayla asked pushing him outside closing the door behind them .

Jaylon laughed, "Our date remember?"

"but I thought you had practice tonight?"

"I told coach I'd have to miss this one. I had more important things to take care of." he replied.

Mikayla grew weak in the knees. She'd never had a guy make her his main priority. In fact, she'd never had a guy. She'd never even gone out on a date before. Jaylon was her first and She had already fallen head over heels in love with him.

"Ew, I can't go out anywhere looking like this JJ. I don't even have any shoes on!" she wiggled her toes.

Jaylon laughed, "Shorty I got'chu, besides you look good to me in anything. Nothing too."

She punched him in the shoulder and they both laughed together.

“You don't even know how I look naked!” she replied.

"I don't need to. C'mon, hop on."

Mikayla hopped onto his back and they made way for his car.

Taking slow rides around the neighborhood and stopping only once to Mikayla's favorite ice cream shop, Toto's, and from there they made history. History too important to ever be forgotten.
