After a day or so, Batman gave the clearance for Amelia to be able to move around the room they were in without cuffs. She mostly remained by her best friend's side waiting for her to wake up. Jesse should have woken up by now, but Batman thinks the sedative caused a negative reaction with the toxins she'd been injected with.
She refused to go anywhere near the windows. In her mind she was safe on Earth, and not in a giant satellite in space. While she knew that if something were to happen, her and Jesse would be safe, she didn't relax.
She looked at her friend still sleeping and patted her hand softly. Jesse's eyes flew open and she looked over at Amelia. Slowly her eyes turned bright green and she leaned over vomiting up blood. Amelia jumped back then ran to the door. She opened it seeing a woman with giant wings on her back standing guard.
"Something is happening!" She exclaims starling the woman who radios Batman. Within seconds the dark knight was in the room examining Jesse and the blood. He frowned as he typed away on the computers.
"The chemicals in the sedative, and the toxins in her bloodstream have created a posion. Her body is fighting it, but not very well."
Amelia looked over at Jesse who was sleeping again. Blood stained her lips, and she could see sweat on her forehead. It was freezing in this room. Amelia grabbed a cloth, and began wiping her head.
"You did this to her...you fix it." She says looking at him. Batman typed more on the computer trying to find something, but he couldn't. The look on his face...from what she could make out said it all. He backs away from the computer before leaving the room.
Was he just going to abandon her? Let Jesse die? No. Amelia wasn't going to let it happen. She will find a way to heal her best friend. She knew that she couldn't do it here. She needed to find a way back to Gotham. How? The Watchtower was heavily guarded, and she knew that she wouldn't make it far before someone found her.
Batman walked back into the room after composing himself, and saw Amelia sitting by the window crying. He frowns then slowly makes his way over to her.
"I miss my mom." She whispers then rubs her eyes. She sniffled then looked up at Batman. He looked back down at Earth then back to her.
"I'll take you to her."
Amelia shivered as she stepped out of the zeta tube into Gotham. That wasn't a feeling she wished to feel again. She looked up at Batman who was currently tracking her mother. She reached down pressing a button on her watch that they had mistakenly forgot to remove. Then she reached into her back pocket and pulled out a sleeping gas she'd swiped from his belt when he walked with her to the zeta tubes.
"Sorry Batsy, I'm not giving up on her." She says then grins as her bike comes speeding around the corner. She throws the gas down careful not to inhale it then grabs onto her bike when it comes flying right by her. She looked behind her to see a figure laying on the ground then ahead to the only person who could give her answers.
The Joker.
Dick ran through the zeta tube when he heard Bruce struggling then silence. He found his mentor laying on the ground asleep. His eyes caught the tire tracks next to his body. He quickly ran Alfred who sent the batmobile to him. He picked up Bruce carefully setting him in the driver seat then sent the car off back to the batcave.
He grappled into the sky searching for Amelia. He knew that she was going to try to find a cure for the poison in Jester's system. He wanted to protect her, but he also knew that she wasn't going to stop until Jester was cured.
Dick perched himself on the sign outside of the FunHouse, and watched as Amelia stepped off of her bike. He could see her reach into seat and pull something out. Before he could get a good look she tucked it into the inside pocket of her leather jacket. He grappled over to the roof of the funhouse, and crawled into the vent after she walked in.
Amelia walked past the joker goons who payed her no attention. She practically grew up here, so she wasn't seen as a threat. She came to two large double doors, loud laughs came from the room. She pushed them open to see The Joker along with Harley torturing their latest victim.
"Joker."
The clown jumped then looked over at the young woman standing in his doorway. Robin watched from the vent ready to jump in when it was needed. Harley squeals happily running to hug her "niece". Amelia stepped out of the way before she could keeping her eyes on the clown.
"I need samples of every toxin you injected into Jesse." She commands walking closer to him. Jesse? Must be Jester. Dick thought as he typed it into his arm computer. Joker grins then sits on the table with his victim.
"And why would you need that little kitten?" He asks twirling a knife in his hand. Amelia narrows her eyes then pushes her mask up onto the top of her head. She pulled out a gun aiming at the clown prince. Harley gasps in shock then calls out for Goons who all run in and hold their guns up to her.
Dick feels his spine go stiff watching the scene unfold before him. The logical thing would be to make himself known, so he could help her, but they were way outnumbered. Amelia didn't falter as she was surrounded by goons, "Give me the samples or I put a bullet between your eyes." She growls pressing the gun against his forehead.
Joker laughs then pushes the gun more into his skin, "Go on kitty kitty...pull the trigger." He whispers. Amelia fidgets when she realized that he saw her bluff. She wasn't a killer, and she never wanted to be. Even if it was the worst villain in Gotham.
But she needed to save Jesse. Her best friend was dying.
She turned the safety off and pressed down on the trigger, but before the gun could fire a rope wrapped around her waist and she flew through the air. Her back collided with a warm chest and she instantly knew whose chest it was.
Dick held her close to him then pushed her into the vent. They crawled through the vents until they reached the one that led to the roof. Once she made it out she turned around slapping the boy wonder in the face.
"I NEEDED THE TOXINS! HOW COULD YOU?!?" She yells then breathes heavily. Dick rubs his cheek then looks at her with an annoyed expression. The Amelia he knew wasn't a killer, even if it was the joker he knew that if she'd killed him then she wouldn't be the same.
"It was a deathtrap Amelia." He argues while pressing a few buttons on his arm. She glares at him then scoffs when she sees him typing, "I'm not taking you back to the WatchTower...I'm disabling any means of tracking that they have on us."
She blinks in confusion, "Why?" She asks after he puts his arm down. He reaches up pushing her mask back down onto her face then caresses her cheek, "Dick why are you doing this?" She whispers not in the mood for games. They'd been playing this same song for years and years, but it stopped being fun once the feelings started to develop.
"Amelia, for some strange reason I can't stop caring about you more than I should. I'm doing this because Jesse is important to you...and you're important to me." He responds then kisses her forehead softly.
"Now, we're going to find this cure together."
Amelia smiles softly nodding then with Dick's help made it to the ground where her bike was. By now the goons had finally made it outside. Dick wasted no time in climbing onto her bike then blushed when he rested his hands on her waist to hold on. Amelia took off expertly dodging the bullets flying at them.
