memories:
something remembered from the past; a recollection

"Tilly! Wait up!" I gasped for air as I followed Tilly through the woods. "Where the hell are we going?!"

Tilly just laughed at my pain. She swerved into a deeper part of the woods. I followed, although I had no idea where we were going. I trusted her. And she trusted me. That scared me. I didn't want her to know.

"A cliff?" I stood next to Tilly, panting for air. "You led me all this way for a cliff?"

"I jumped off here once," Tilly replied. "When I was eight, I was playing in the woods with my cousin Rachel. And when I saw the cliff it reminded me of some movie. So when I jumped I didn't even think it would hurt me."

"Shit," I sat down and patted the grass next to me. She plopped down next to me and leaned her head on my shoulder. The waves beneath us crashed against the side of the cliff. "What happened?"

"I died," she giggled. "But in all seriousness I was in a coma for a few weeks. Sure I had landed in water, but it was still like hitting a brick wall. I almost died."

"I'm glad you didn't," I leaned my head on her head.

"Me too," Tilly snuggled in tighter.

Suddenly everything fell around me, Tilly was gone. The memory was gone. I was standing in a black room. I didn't know where I was and I couldn't see anything. I was dreaming. They were operating on me at that moment.

"Tilly?" I called out. "Tilly, are you there?"

"I'm here, Luke," Tilly's voice echoed around me, but she was nowhere to be seen.

"Tilly?" I called again. "I can't see you."

"You'll be okay, Hemmings," Tilly whispered. "You'd better be. You still owe me an explanation."

"Tilly?" I called once more.

"I'll be there when you wake up," she said. "I promise."

The scene switched to Tilly's house. I remembered that day. It was when Tilly introduced me to her mom and dad. It was only a day after the massacre. I assumed they hadn't heard about me yet. They had been so nice.

"Luke, is it?" I saw Tilly's dad and my past self standing on the back porch.

"Yessir," I replied.

"You seem like a nice kid," he nodded. "But I just want to let you know...Tilly...she feels things stronger than anyone else I know. Her emotions are stronger. Which means that if you break her heart...you'll break her."

"I don't plan on doing that, Mr. Wallace," the old me lied. I had known that she was going to find out eventually.

"Alright," he patted me on the back. "As long as you know."

Suddenly, my head was pounding. I was in the black room again. But I felt like I was letting go. Like I was dying.

"They just penetrated your skull," Tilly's voice said. "That's why it hurts. But hold on for me, okay, Luke? Please."

"I-I will," I tried to concentrate. "Tilly, is this really you?"

"Is it?"
