10.
"Rajat, I think I should leave now," Naina said tying up her hair into a ponytail and got up from the couch. Rajat's house had minimal furniture, a couch, two bamboo chairs, and a small telephone stool in the hall, a single bed mend up of iron, some shelves, and another bamboo chair in the bedroom, "Mira has an appointment with Dr Khanna tomorrow."
"Dr Khanna?" Rajat asked shockingly and waved his hand in such a way that Naina's bag fell and all the stuff came out of it, "the eye-specialist?"
"Yes, why are you shocked?" she asked and bent down to gather up her stuff, Rajat too helped her.
"Wait-what are you guys planning about?" He asked.
"Ok," Naina sighed and kept the mascara in her bag, "Mira wants to get back her eye-sight, we have to collect the reports from Mr Khanna tomorrow."
"Reports? It means Mira has taken a test!" Rajat asked and banged his hand on the small mirror which made Rajat's hand bleed.
"What are you doing, Rajat?" Naina said and took Rajat's hand in hers and rushed into Rajat's room and came back with a first aid box and a bowl of water, she dipped a cotton ball in the bowl and slowly kept it on the wound.
"What are you doing Naina?" Rajat asked in a heavy voice, "why you didn't tell me this?"
"I-I'm sorry Rajat, but everything happened so quickly, I got no time to tell you about this," she said, "on 2nd January, after Amay left the orphanage, Sanju Tai and Mira had some very serious talks, I don't know what was it all about, but Mira behaved very different after that."
"What? Mira?" Rajat asked in a soft tone.
"Yes, it was the first time I felt she wants to see the world," Naina said, "so we decided to get her an eye checkup."
"Is Amay knowing this?" He asked.
"We tried, harder and harder, but he didn't receive the call," Naina replied taking out the antiseptic cream and applying it on Rajat's hand.
"Did you call Rukhsaar?" Rajat asked.
"No, I don't have her contact number." Naina said and took out a bandage from the box and tied it tightly around Rajat's palm, "and it's done."
"No, it's not, Naina," Rajat yelled.
"Don't scream," Naina said made a puppy face.
"Fine," Rajat said, "Just call Rukhsaar, I have her contact number, it's in the diary."
"Okay," Naina said and moved into the room, she opened the cupboard and kept the First-Aid box in it and moved up to a shelf, it had some old cassettes and books and lots of diaries, she opened one, 'There's only one thing I hate; lies' and closed it quickly, her breathing became shallow, she took the support of the bamboo chair kept near the shelf, "what if Rajat learns about me? How will he react?" she said to herself and got tensed and a drop of salty water fell off from her dark brown eyes, "I must tell him about my past."
"NAINA," Rajat called her out from the hall, "did you find it?"
"Yeah, I'm coming," she said with a shivering voice, and kept back the dairy whose first page she read, and took out a big and bulky diary, which had contact numbers of people who Rajat knew, "how come Rajat knows Rukhsaar?" she thought, "I'll ask him," Naina sighed and took the diary and headed towards the hall.
"So late?" Rajat asked Naina and offered her a cup of coffee.
"Um, Rajat," Naina took the coffee, "I was thinking of confessing something with you," she said nervously.
