In which Max Mayfield finds herself in 1978, where Christine 'Ziggy' Berman helps her discover her feelings for her telekinetic bestie.
(In which the time travel theory is correct.)
(Also I'm writing this on Wednesday before the second part comes out on Friday,, so.. yeah. Inaccurate representation of Fear Street: 1978
based off of the trailer that released today
so I interpret a lot-)

[Max's POV]

Robin told me to run, that's the last thing I remember. The next thing I knew, I wasn't in modern day Ohio on the way to Maine anymore. I wake up in the middle of the woods. A girl runs past me, I raise an eyebrow. Where am I? I watch the girl continue running, then someone hits her in the face, knocking her to the ground. What the hell is this? Did they just kill that girl? I start to freak out. Somehow, I find the idea of people killing other people more terrifying than the Mindflayer.

I stand up, someone grabs me by the arm. "Got you, witch!" I raise my eyebrows at the girl. "Excuse me?!" The girl looks confused. "How did you change clothes so fast, Ziggy?" I laugh "Who the fuck is Ziggy?" I tilt my head, shaking my arm out of the girls grasp. She looks genuinely confused, but I'm too busy trying to find a way back to question anything. The girl runs over to the one who just died- wait, never mind, she's just knocked down. The kids surround her. I walk closer, trying to keep my distance and not get involved in anything. They grab the girls hands, tying a rope around her wrists. What kind of sick fuckers actually do this? Then I remember what the Party told me what Troy did to them, and it didn't seem as impossible.

They make her stand up, dragging her out into a grassy area where a single tree stands. She has red hair like me, that must be why the girl thought I was her. They place her right under the tree and.. wait are they hanging this poor girl? If I were her, I would knock some sense into them! Which is exactly what she does, elbowing one of the girls in the face. I can't hear what they're saying, so that's when I sneak up and hide behind the tree, I grab a big rock from beside the tree, remembering how Lucas taught me to throw them in self defense. "You know what they did to Sarah Fier?" Is all I hear the girl say before I step off to the side of the tree, hurling the rock into the air. "Hey! LEAVE HER ALONE!" The rock hits one of the boys, they all widen their eyes, running away.

"Yeah! That'll show you!" Says the girl as she dangles on her tiptoes. It would be amusing if it weren't so scary. I find the knot in the rope, untying it. "Hey, thanks for the hel- HOLY SHIT." We stand face to face now. I swear I am looking into a mirror, except she seems a little more.. mature. "Who the fuck are you?" I back up. "Ziggy, Ziggy Berman. And you?" I hold my hand out. "I'm Max, Max Mayfield.." She wipes the blood from her nose, shaking my hand and it reminds me of El. I sigh, sitting down on the dirt. She sits with me. "You weren't at Camp at the beginning of this week, were you?" I shake my head.

"What.. year is it?" I remember Murray talking about possibilities of time travel. "It's 1978, did they hit you in the head too?" I laugh. "No.. you're just.. not going to believe me." She shrugs "Try me, I didn't know I had a twin until today, now anything is possible." I think about it for a bit. "I'm from 1986 and well, I was traveling to go see my friend El and there was a noise and Robin told me to run and now I'm here." She shrugs "I mean, why not?"

"So, El lives somewhere else?" I nod "Yeah, Hopper, her dad was captured by Russians, but we thought he died, so she moved to Maine with his ex girlfriend and her two sons..." She raises an eyebrow. "So where are you from?" "Originally, California, but I came from Hawkins, Indiana." She nods "El sounds pretty special, if you're willing to drive from Indiana to Maine to see her.." I smile "Yeah.. I just.. really miss her."

Ziggy puts her hand on my shoulder. "If my sister was thousands of miles away, I would miss her too." I shake my head. "No.. I don't think I see El as a sister.. she's more.." "More?" I look Ziggy in the eyes. "Zig, can I tell you something? You have to promise you won't judge." She nods "Yeah, if I had no problem with the, alien-" "Mindflayer." I correct her. "Yeah, whatever, then I won't judge you for anything else."

I nod, taking a deep breath. "So, last summer was the first time I talked to El.. we spent all summer together.. there were a few times where I.." "Where you..?" She moves her hand, gesturing for me to go on with it. "I wanted to kiss her.. but she had a boyfriend, and they loved each other.. but.. I don't know.. it seemed like a few times she wanted to kiss me too.." I put my head in my hands.

Ziggy stands up, dusting her shorts off. "Max, it sounds like you're in love with your best friend." She smiles. "You aren't against it?" She shakes her head. "Nah, people around these parts call me a witch, if that's so, we're supposed to stick up for those who are different, right?" She lends me her hand so I can get up. "Well, I better get back.. my sister will be waiting." I nod "I better find a way to get back.. thank you, Ziggy." She smirks, beginning to walk away. "No problem!" She waves. "Wait!"

She turns back, standing still. "If you ever need to deal with those bullies, I suggest don't run, get a skateboard." She tilts her head, confused "What's a skateboard?" I sigh, getting into my backpack. "Drop it off in California in at the Madrid Skate Shop in 1982, if you don't, I won't ever become a Zoomer, so I'll hold you to that." She nods "Will do." I quickly remember "Oh! Don't ride it in the grass! Only on roads, or else the grass will get stuck in the wheels." She nods, walking away. "Take care of me baby!" She laughs "You worry too much!" And walks back into the woods. I walk back to where I woke up, then I hear a scream

The next thing I know, I'm back in the car.  I look in my backpack for my skateboard. Thank God. "Max, we're here! Get up, hurry." Was it all a dream? It must've been. I get out, running up the driveway and knock on the door frantically. I see El's face as she opens the door. "Max?" Before she can say anything else, I take her hand, running into the house and slowly press my lips onto hers. I pull back quickly, putting my hands in my pockets. "Wait.. Max?" She looks confused. "Oh.. did I do something wrong? I'm sorry I shouldn't have-" She puts her hands against my face, pulling my lips back onto hers.

"I was just going to ask if you could teach me to skate.. before we go get Hop.. I mean." I nod, getting my skateboard out of my backpack. I'm about to sit it on the floor when I see something I hadn't seen before. 'Max, geez. I hope you weren't lying to me about being from the 80's. I hope everything works out with El! Be careful! The world is filled with dangers far more scary than any alien. - Ziggy Berman.'
