When we walked into Ellis's house the first thing that hit me was the overwhelming smell of weed.

A deep voice yelled, "Shea! Ollie! Glad you guys finally made it."

"Hey Ellis" Shea said with a smile. The pale blonde boy walked up and wrapped his arms around both of us, engulfing my small body and barely reaching Shae's shoulder. Ellis wasn't short, exactly, but he wasn't tall either. I guess he was somewhere in the middle. I didn't think about how soon his hugs would no longer be there.

"How you doin' El?" I asked. Looking at him, he had brown bloodshot eyes, pale skin and his under eyes were a deep shade of purple-ish black. He had short and curly blonde hair that stuck up all over his head.

"I'm alright. Old man and I got into a fight about having the party here but I promised to go to church on Sunday so it's fine." He chuckled- "The things I do for you and your sister."

I rolled my eyes at him, "What a great sacrifice you made."

"OOOOOlllliiiieeeee!" I heard a shrill voice and in a matter of seconds someone slammed into my back, knocking the breath out of me.

"Llliiiiiaaaa!" I said to my sister, turning around and giving her a proper hug. "Happy birthday!" we said at the same time, bursting out in a giggle fit.

"Are you two pussys done yet?", a familiar voice said. I looked over Lia's shoulder and made eye contact with Kat, one of our oldest friends.

Kat was pretty in a cut-throat type way. She had wavy black hair with neon green streaks in the front framing her face. With blue eyes, braces, and freckles across her nose she could get any guy she wanted- until they found out she was homeless. Kat got kicked out when she was 10 by her dick of a brother. He took care of her after their parents died, until he got "tired of the burden" and decided to throw a 10 year old out on the street. She was 16 now, and as close to Lia and I as a sister. I always took her friendship for granted, didn't I?

"Hey bitch" I said affectionately, walking over and doing our handshake. We ended with a hip bump, hugging each other afterwards.

She smiled at me and said "Happy birthday kiddos!" Kat always called Lia and I that, despite only being a year old.

Later that night- around 9pm

Ellis came up to me and showed off his new painted nails. We were playing truth or dare and Kat dared him to get a manicure. He grumbled about it but eventually gave in.

He walked over and slapped my arm "You like the paint job?" he asked, annoyed.

"I think Hello Kitty wouldve been better, actually". I said while rubbing my arm. The slap didn't hurt I just wanted to make him feel bad.

Ellis rolled his eyes and walked away, going to complain to Kat. They'd been dating for a while but wouldn't admit it, even though the rest of us thought it was quite cute.

I looked at the table with all my friends around it and smiled, feeling happy. Happy that they were safe and not starving, and that we could all just have this one night to be together without worrying about money or shit like that. At least I thought we could.

That's when I felt it- the ache in my arms, my brain fogging up, my heart racing.

No no no please not now now not please no I begged in my mind. Please let me have this one night.

NO! Another voice in my head shouted, one I knew too well, and was terrified of. Scar, my other personality. I WANT TO PLAY , she said- causing me to tug on the roots of my hair. She's so loud it feels like my skull is cracking open. no no no not tonight. not on our birthday. But it was too late.

Before I could even process I felt her  take over, forcing me to walk to the counter where Lia's new knife sat. Slowly I held it in my hand, tucked it up my sweatshirt sleave and began to stumble over to the table.

The smell of weed was strong over here. Kat, Ellis, Lia and Shae all sat around passing a joint while playing Monopoly of all things. Kat looked at me, slightly worried.

"You okay babe?" she asked, but I barely heard her. I was trapped in my body, fighting for control as Scar flicked the knife down my sleeve.

Kat's eyes flicked down to my hand and her face drained of color. "Scatter!" she yelled, leaping up to come tackle me, trying to rip the knife from my grasp.

Scar wasn't giving up that easy.

She-I- rolled over on top of Kat and slashed the knife through the air. I narrowly missed, impaling it right beside her head. In a moment of shock, Ellis flew towards me and knocked me off Kat, pinning me to the ground.

"Ollie! What the hell are you doing?!" He screamed at my, the veins popping out of his neck.

A smirk crept up my lips- "Guess again" I said sinisterly.

Ellis looked taken aback- none of them knew about Scar. She hadn't surfaced in a while and when she did Lia always coaxed me back. But I didn't know where Lia was and Ellis was making it hard to breathe, which only fueled the rage I suddenly felt.

I yanked away my right hand and slammed it into his face, the impact sending him off me. I stood up and snatched the knife.

"NO!" I screamed, over and over again. "Scar no! Leave them alone please please no!"

Kat and Shae stood shocked, while Lia slowly stepped towards me.
"Scar..." she said slowly, "put the knife down. You don't want to hurt them, you want to play right?"

I nodded, trying to loosen my grip on the knife. Suddenly my vision went white and I knew Scar had completely taken over control. I heard screams all around my, heard a slash and the sickening sound of skin being pierced and my hands covered in a liquid warmth.
