Years have passed and they have not had any news about each other. But then, William was walking by a street when he heard two young women, one with very long blonde hair and another with short brown hair, talking to each other.

"A friend told me from the Tharial Kingdom that the princess will finally marry a prince from Sacidian." said the woman with the blonde hair. "I did hear that news, too. I also heard that they are merging the two kingdoms."

"What will they do about the boundary?" the short-haired girl replied.

He gave time to prepare himself for this news but he did not know it would still hurt this bad. Everyday, he looks back thinking how he could have done it differently but in any angle he looks at it, he finds himself making the same decisions. He would not have done anything differently and he would still lose her. He convinces himself that he did what he could, he did it for her. His heart aches as he imagines her in another mans arms. 'Maybe she is happier', he thinks.

"I did it for her sake." he tries to persuade himself.

He sighs and shakes his head and a smile grows on his face as a thought comes into mind.

"Just this once, I'll be selfish."

he runs and gets on his horse. His adrenaline kicks in as his heart rate increases. For the second time, he felt free. All he can hear is a rhythm that quickens, not sure if it is the horse galloping or the sound of his beating heart. He can now choose, he will choose. His smile widens at the thought of seeing her. "I will be selfish for you, to have you." he starts to slow down as he gets near the boundary when he notices.

"Princess..." he calls out as he sees the woman he loves at the other side of the fence. He gets off his horse and walks close to her.

"Well, I told you I would wait." she chuckles. She looks even more beautiful than he last saw her.

"I felt like you were calling me so I went here." she stated.

"Grissell..." he cannot speak anything except her name. She left him speechless.

"Williame, I am getting married tomorrow."

The smile from his face got wiped out by six words he prepared himself for. She smiles trying to mitigate the sadness that she knows he is feeling.

"I found him. That someone I love that would put me first. I kept my promise."

Williame tries to speak but no words are leaving his mouth.

"You don't have to speak. I just wanted to tell you how grateful I am that I met you. You have shown and made me feel love that is selfless and I will never forget that. Thank you. Because of you, I got the love I deserved, a love where I didn't have to plead." Williames eyes start to water. "Thank you so much and you will always be the love of my life. Maybe it just wasn't right. I have to go now. This is our last goodbye."

She walks away satisfied that she has gotten the things she wanted to say out of her chest. She was glad to see him again.

He watches her back as she takes steps farther and farther away from him. He is thinking of how grateful he is because she finally understood. He gets back up to his horse and lets the tears flow from his eyes. He looks to her direction and whispers the words he wanted to tell her since that day,

"Thank you, my Princess. I love you."

The End.
