We were best friends

We were best friends. We've been friends since grade school. It was fun, especially when we both got into the volleyball club during high school. We were a good tandem inside and outside the court. We shared everything together. Smiles, tears, and even life problems.

We were always together and I thought it was just a typical friendship, but one day I realized that I see him more than that. I've been having this feeling ever since we first met, when he protected me from a bully in grade school. It was love at first sight, but I was too in denial to even acknowledge it.

His smile is my favourite. I always get mesmerized every-freaking-time. It's like feeling the world stopping and hearing my heart beating. Yes, I am madly in love.

I've always wanted to tell him but I was too afraid I might ruin our friendship. Then one day I texted him to meet me at the rooftop after class and he replied "Okay". I just had the courage that day and decided to confess.

My heart was beating so fast and my hands were as cold as ice as I waited for him to show up. I already practiced what I was going to say.

"Hey," I turned around when I heard his voice. And there he was, hypnotizing as ever.

"Hey, I have something to tell you." I said. He looked at me in the eyes and smiled. My favourite smile.

"I have something to tell you, too." He replied.

"You go first," I told him since I don't even know how to start confessing. He nodded.

"I finally confessed to the girl I like! I've been meaning to tell you before coming here. We are together now," he told me happily. "And of course you deserve to know first. You're my bestfriend."

Right there and then, my heart was broken into pieces. I wanted to cry and shout at him to let him know that I've been loving him for so long. There are so many things I wanted to say, but I just stood there with my whole body trembling. It was too late.

"I'm happy for you," I was surprised at how I can say those words so calmly. I even had a courage to smile while my world is crashing. I was slowly dying inside.

He smiled back.
