Blake Pov

I can't believe this right now.

It hasn't been even 24 hours and already I'm embracing her as if she were my woman.

I haven't been close to women like this in years.

Mostly because they are a distraction, a nuisance, and unneeded.

Many women have tried to get my attention, even gone as far as to entice me sexually, all of which have failed.

When I saw her panicking like a scared little girl, I don't know why but something inside me just hit, and I instinctively grabbed at her.

The car suddenly hit a bump in the road and she stirred in her sleep.

I instinctively wrapped my hands around her again.

She settled and rested herself deep into my chest.

"Take the scenic route, where the roads are straight."

"I don't care how long it takes."

"Yes sir." He nodded understanding.

I stared down again, at where my hands held her tightly.

There it was again.

My instinct to hold her. And not just that my arms fit so perfectly around her small frame. I...

I drew the idea out of my head, I need to get to work. I can't let myself be distracted. I'm busy enough as it is.

I grabbed her by her legs and back and picked her up. I placed her on the seat beside me with her head resting on my lap.

I pick up my laptop and got back to work.

In a few weeks, I have a meeting with the Bonetti family. They have plans to expand business in-state. And they want me to become a future prospect leader in their expedition.

Which is one of many reasons why I had to get married.

The Bonetti's are all about family. Everything they do is all about la famiglia. Starting from the ground under they built themselves through generations of hard work and sweat.

And now they are one of the many families that run Italy.

My father had told me that because I wasn't a family man it'd be hard to establish a connection with them. And get them to trust as a future benefactor and shareholder. At first, I dismissed it as utter nonsense.

But later when I told them I was unmarried at the time. They frowned at me and asked me what was the holdup.

Instinctively I told them my fiance and I were still looking for the perfect date.

The other reason is that my father wouldn't fully hand over the company unless I settled down. He too wanted me to become a family man and start my own family. This was per his and my mother's wishes.

And unless I didn't want them pairing me off with any random women who'd exploit me for money and power. I had to choose my own wife.

Which is where she came along.

That was my only purpose for getting married, nothing more and nothing less.

But besides that, that little snake was starting to make his move.

There was something else going on and I had to find out now.

I knew it wasn't a coincidence that he starting to come out of the shadows just weeks before my meeting.

Suddenly my phone vibrated in my pocket.

I pulled it out and looked at the caller id, Jake. I answered it.

"What's up, did you find anything?" I asked

"No nothing yet, calling to check up. Did you pick up your bride yet?"

I look down at the girl laying down on my lap.

"Yeah. We're heading back."

"And your still not back yet?"

I look outside the window. "We're taking the scenic route."

"Wow, that's so unlike you?"

"Shut up okay, she had a panic attack on the way here the last thing I need is for her to wake up again."

"Oh shit, is she okay?"

I look back down at her sleeping peacefully on my lap.

"Yeah, she's fine."

"Why did you let her get in the car, it hasn't even been over 1 month since she recovered from the accident."

"What was I supposed to do bike all the way home, let her take the bus." I say sarcastically.

"You could have given her sleeping pills before the ride."

"I wasn't thinking and clearly she wasn't either."

"Next time I'll make a mental note not to let my wife in a car. Did you get that John?" I say to both of them.

"Yes will do." He said chuckling.

"Well look at you being the dutiful husband, I'm proud of you. It hasn't even been 12 hours and you're already stepping up to the plate as a family man." He said mockingly.

"If there nothing important I'm hanging up."

"Wait wait wait, Mason called, he said it's important and told you to call him back."

"Jake-" I warned annoyed.

"I know I know important stuff first unnecessary after. Talk later." He said hanging up quickly.

Obviously, he didn't, and later when I see him I going to smash it into his head until he does.

I decided whether or not I should make the call now and decide against it.

I make a mental note to call when I get inside the house.

I look back at the girl laying on my lap and place my hands over her hair, patting it gently before I rested my back into the seat.
