"Two bullets to the head. Execution style." I was knelt down by the victims body.
"Yep. Possibly the cause of death. But I'll know more when I get him back to autopsy." Vic Hughes, the medical examiner, told me.
"Hey, Bishop? You have a visitor." Detective Andy Herrera, my best friend, said as she pointed to the crowd.

I turned and rolled my eyes as I saw the famous author, Carina DeLuca, walking towards me.
"Ah, ciao Detective Bishop. You're looking wonderful today." Carina said.
"DeLuca, I don't have time for your flirtiness or your smart ass comments today, okay? Just stand back and write your little notes." I snapped.

The Captain had told me that I had to take Carina on scenes with me so she could get some inspiration for her new book. I had tried to protest, seeing as I couldn't stand the woman, but Captain Webber had told me that he owed the Mayor a favor.
So I didn't really have a choice in the matter.

"Did you have your coffee this morning? You're extra grumpy when you don't get your daily dose of caffeine." The author smirked.
"Are you done, DeLuca?" I spat.
I didn't receive an answer, so I turned back to Andy and Vic.
"What evidence did the uniforms find?"
"Nothing really. A torn piece of clothing that matches the vics shirt on the dumpster back there."
"Any shell casings?"
"Nope. Nothing. Someone cleaned up after they got the job done."
"And nobody saw or heard anything?" I asked.

"This area is known for don't ask, don't tell. A lot of gang violence occurs in this neighborhood. In the past year, one hundred and two gang related crimes were reported. Who knows how many were not reported." Carina said.
I turned to look at her, and she held her hands up.
"Shutting up." She pretended to lock her mouth and throw the key away.

"Herrera, send Montgomery and Miller door to door and ask around. And see if the smoke shop across the street has a camera."
"You got it." Andy walked off, leaving Maya alone with Carina.

"How much longer do I have to deal with you?" I sighed out.
"Until I have enough inspiration for my book, detective."
"You've been on ten crime scenes, is that not inspiration enough?" I snapped.
"Oh, the Captain didn't tell you? I'm not exactly writing about the scenes, I'm writing about you."
"You're what?" I scoffed.
"I'm basing my character, Detective Laura Riley, off of you."
"Great. Fucking fantastic." I muttered under my breath.
"So, I'll be seeing more of you. Especially at the station." She gave me a huge smile.
"Great." I walked off and got in my squad car.

*At the station*

"What do we know about our vic?" I asked as I walked into the bull pen with a cup of coffee.
"Nineteen years old, no record, not even a parking ticket. Name is Nathan Fillion. Works at the center of performing arts." Andy read off to me.
"Any friends? Family? Romantic partners?" I sat down in my chair.
"No, no, and no. Our vic's parents died when he was five in a house fire. Got put in the foster system. Moved from house to house until he eventually aged out."

"Have you tried contacting his social worker? Maybe get in touch with some of his foster parents and see if there was any issues growing up?" Carina asked from her chair next to my desk.
I rolled my eyes internally. "Get Travis on it. He's better with people than any of us are." I turned and faced my desk, looking at my notes.

I heard a chair rolling towards me, and I didn't have to be a genius to know it was DeLuca.
"So, Maya. What are you like outside of work."
"For one. It's Detective Bishop. For two, why." I didn't even look up from my paper work.

"For the book. I need to know what Detective Bishop is like outside of work, so I can write Laura's personality."
I sighed and looked up at her, "I really don't want this book being written about me and my personal life."
"Nobody will know that it was based off of you. Unless you want them to know."
"Look. I've worked hard to get where I am. Do you see too many female homicide detectives? No. You've got me, Herrera, and maybe ten more in the entire state of Washington. So excuse me if I don't have time for your bullsh-"

"Detective Bishop. A word in my office." Captain Webber said from his doorway.
I internally groaned, and walked to his office, shutting the door behind me.
"Yes sir?"
"Are you trying to make my life difficult?" He asked.
"Sir?"
"I need you to go along with this damn book. I owe the mayor a favor, and if I remember correctly, you owe me a favor. I know you don't like Carina for whatever reason, but I need you to just go along with the damn story. Whatever she needs, you do. Do you understand?"
"Yes sir."  I turned to leave.
"Bishop?"

"Yes Captain?"
"You're still my favorite god daughter." He said with a small smile.
"I'm your only god daughter sir. And for the record, you're still my favorite god father and Captain."

I walked back out to my desk, and took my seat.
"Okay, DeLuca. What do you need from me." I turned to face her.
"I need a night with the one and only Captain Bishop, so I can see how you are outside of work." She said with a small smile.
"Fine."
"Wait, really?" She asked surprised.
"You want me to take it back?" I rolled my eyes.
"No. I'll wait for you after your shift, and we can get together."
"Fine." I muttered as I went back to my paper work.

"Alright then. It's a date."
