Maya

I slowly opened my eyes, and saw bright lights
What the fuck? Is this heaven? Wait, did I just say fuck in heaven? Damn it, I'm definitely going to hell now.

"Maya? Oh my God, are you awake?" I heard Carina's voice.
"Why are you in heaven?" I mumbled, I still couldn't open my eyes all the way.
"Detective Bishop? Can you tell me your name?" I heard someone ask.
"Maya Bishop. I thought God knew everybody?"
"Bambina, you're not in heaven. You're at Grey+Sloan. You were shot." I heard Carina's voice break.
"My fucking head hurts." I groaned.
"I'll have the nurses give you something for the pain. Just try to relax a bit detective."

I was able to fully open my eyes, and looked around the room.
"What the fuck happened?"
"You got shot, Maya." Andy said.
I turned and saw her sitting on the right side of my bed, with bloodshot and teary eyes.

"Did you get him?" I asked.
"Yeah. We got him." Andy gave me a small smile.

I heard Carina let out a sob to the left of me. I immediately reached out and grabbed her hand.
"Carina-"
"I almost lost you today." She whispered.
"But you didn't. It's all part of the job baby." I squeezed her hand.
"I'll give you two some time alone. I'm glad you're okay Bishop." Andy squeezed my shoulder, and left the room.

"Rina, look at me." I lifted her chin up. "I should've been more careful. This is my fault. But it's part of the job. I'm gonna get shot at, I'm gonna go into dangerous situations. I have to do these things."
"I know. I was just so damn scared. I haven't had enough time with you, and I could've lost you." She kissed my hand.
"I'm not going anywhere. I'll always find my way back to you."
"Do you promise? I don't know what I'd do if something happened to you bambina."
"I promise. I'm not going anywhere Carina. You're stuck with me for a long long time." I smiled at her.
"You drive me crazy Maya Bishop." She chuckled.
"You love it. Now, come here and kiss me."
She smiled and leaned down, capturing my lips with hers.
It felt just like our first kiss. I felt like I was floating on the cloud. This woman makes me crazy.
"I'm never leaving your side again." Carina said as she kissed my forehead.

"Detective."
We looked at the door and saw Captain Webber standing in the doorway.
"Sir." I nodded.

"How are you feeling?" He walked into the room.
"As good as someone who just got shot can be." I laughed and winced.
"That was enough Captain talk. Now I'm Uncle Richard. You could've died." He said, his posture and demeanor changing completely.
"I know. Things happen. It's part of the job Richard."
"Trust me, I know. I just don't like the idea of it happening to my god daughter."
"I'll try harder to be safer. I have a reason to now." I squeezed Carina's hand and smiled at her.
"I'm happy for you two. Surprised, but happy." He smiled at us.
"Thank you."
"You'll be able to come back to work in six to eight weeks."
"Six to eight weeks! But sir-"
"Nope. No buts. Doctors orders."
"Yes sir." I sighed.

He went to walk out, "DeLuca?"
"Yes sir?"
"Take good care of my god daughter."
"Always, sir." She smiled and nodded as he left.

"Do you need anything bella?" She stroked the back of my hand with her thumb.
"Just you." I sighed.
"I was really scared, bambina." She whispered.
"Honestly? I was too."
"My big strong detective was scared?" She asked.
"Of course. Getting shot in the gut is scary. Things just kept running through my mind. All the good times, all the bad times, even every single second I've spent with you. It just kept replaying through my mind."
"Me too bella, me too." She kissed my forehead.
"It made me realize something."
"What's that?"

"It made me realize that," I took a deep breath.
"That I love you, Carina DeLuca."

She paused and looked at me, finally giving me her award winning smile.
"I love you too, Maya Bishop."
