Attraction. The feeling overtakes you at random points in your life; whether it be you getting groceries from the store under your house or in an airplane flying halfway across the world.
The next few days had trickled away uneventful, the text I received still fresh on my mind. I jog down the street, the melodic tunes of 'bird song' emitting from my earphones.
From the corner of my eye, I spot a large crowd spewing a boisterous commotion.
You can be attracted to a person because of their looks, actions, smell, or various other factors.
With bated breath, I waddle towards the unsettling scene. A whiff of fuel engulfs my nostrils as I shove through an assortment of distraught strangers to get into the center of the mob.
'Someone call 911.' 'Dial 911.' 'Is anyone here a doctor?' 'Somebody help!'
My eyes widen as I take in the scene in front of me. The light of the glossy sun overhead glistens on a metallic red car shoved into the side pole. The entire front area of the car; extending from the right headlight to the left one along with the number plate, bumper and grill; lies shattered into a million pieces. Zigzags of screeching tires patterns the solid ground as I spot a panicked woman sitting on the front seat of the car.
My feet scramble beside the woman as three men surround the open door of the car.
'Hello, I'm Doctor Reed,' I introduce myself as the men move aside to give me room.
I hurriedly assess the injuries of the woman. Thick sputters of blood gush out of her right leg. I should probably watch out for paralysis. Tiny shards of glass from the cracked sideview mirror encircle her young face, encompassing it with small cuts and scratches.
'I'm going to need your help in getting her out. We need to be very careful.' I nod at the men.
I look at the brunette woman in the car with beads of sweat trickling down her neck. I move a little closer to the seat and say, 'Hey, can you tell me your name?'
'Giuliana,' she chokes out. Before I can add anything more, she whispers, 'My son, at the back seat. Please make sure he's okay.' A few tears spill out of her withered eyes.
I look behind to spot a tiny boy, shaking with fear. His brown eyes catch me watching him and he immediately turns his face away, hiding behind the red locks of his hair.
'The door is jammed. We tried opening it but eventually stopped,' one of the men informs me, nodding at the backseat.
Before I have the time to react, a young man jogs up next to me. He pulls on the handles of the backseat. After a few attempts, he kicks on the door and it instantly clicks open.
'I'm Doctor Seymour.' He presents himself to the little boy who is too frightened to even lift his head. 'I'm going to make sure your mum is okay, but I can only do that if you come with me first.' This catches the boys attention and he nods shyly. Slowly he moves towards the exit, his hands and legs quivering in terror.
