"babysitting was never part of the deal."

.

YOU THREW your hands around your taller best friend. Lilia visibly softened at the scene, taking a step back from the door and the flustered whitehead.

Eli stammered as you clung to him, repeating 'thank you's directly to his face. The boy felt overwhelmed as you squished his cheeks, finally letting the poor boy go. He bashfully handed you your favourite smoothie, a smile on his face.

"Here," Eli scratched his cheek, his voice thick with an accent. "I was worried something happened, but turns out I wasn't needed, huh."

You gasped dramatically, "Eli, my ultimate bro. My absolute lovable dork. My soon-to-be platonically married significant other. I could never not need you. I love you, y'know? No homo."

"But that wasn't even—"

"Yeah, that's why I said no homo."

"I—"

"Neways. You always know what's up, Eli. How can I not love you? Platonically or not," You held your smoothie to your cheek, relishing in the cold seeping to your skin. "Oh heavens, I bet my mom's rolling in her grave right now. Where even are my manners? Wanna come in? Get on with girls night?"

Eli peeked past you, which isn't hard for him who stood at a very convenient six feet. If only you could rob some inches off of him, you would've done that from years ago. "You're sure it's girls night and not boys night?"

"Heck no. Just because I'm the only girl, doesn't automatically mean it's called boys night," You rolled your eyes, "what do you even do on boys night? I wouldn't know. Something boring, probably."

Eli furrowed his brows, "Then how would I—"

"Shut up Eli you know you got grounded for hanging out with the girls in third grade of course you'll know what a girls night is." You deadpanned, lazily poking his cheek.

He sighed, "Maybe next time. I immediately jumped in my car the second you turned off your phone. And it's kind of late. My mom will slap me if I don't take care of Henry."

"Your lil bro, huh?"

"He's turning six tomorrow," Eli smiled fondly, "you know, that boy looks almost as old as Henry. Who's that, another one of your cousins?"

"Which boy??" You blinked owlishly.

"Don't be silly. That one," Eli pointed to your right leg. Love and behold, the tufts of silver hair belonging to one of the children clung to your thigh like a jumping cholla. Your brow twitched before you sighed, hesitating to put a hand on his shoulder and gently push him off you. Surprisingly, however. He didn't budge.
