On the other side of pain, there is still love. — Madeleine L'Engle
A silence swept through the room, the air began to chill. Nova watched Cairo's face closely. His eyes flickered orange and then back to the green she knew. His eye were not focused on Nova but on his trembling hands, His jaw clenched as he regained composure.
As he contemplated his answer, a look of pain passed through his usually cheerful face. He looked up, meeting Nova's warm brown eyes and her worried expression. He then ran his hand through his messy black hair.
"No one, except my brother and my assistant Veronica," He says in a low but clearly angry voice. Ugh Veronica, how I dislike her, she wants to get into Cairo's pants so bad(Nova's thought). "Thank you for telling me straight out," Nova says with a sigh as she sees Cairo unclench his jaw. His face still sporting a stern expression. "I expect that to be confidential, do you understand me, Ms. Brisbane ?". He rarely ever said her last name formally, this showed how serious the topic was.
"Expect nothing else, Mr. Calvillo". Cairo then sighs, playing with the golden ring on his right ring finger. Cairo then begins to plead, "Mon Chou please, I beg you, Sarah was a good friend. We were friends with benefits yes, but I cared for her, she was so lively, I need you to get her justice." Nova could see the pain in Cairo's eyes, the pain of losing someone is something she understood deeply. Rowan... I miss you. Cairo reached for Nova's hand, which she gave him, his hand was large, soft, and warm.
Nova then pulled her hand away, she immediately missed the warmth. "I will do everything I can to find her killer, trust me, Cairo," she reassured him with her confidence.
"I know Mon Chou, that's why I came to you and not those pesky police. Even if we have a mutual dispute between us," he smirks dubiously in Nova's direction, hoping to get a rise out of her. "You could have gone to Sterling with this", Nova points out. "Your brother doesn't understand me quite like you do, also I'm going to become a suspect the moment the connection is made so not possible," He chuckles letting out a breath he had been holding.
"Well our business is done I will send the expenses to your assistant, Cairo, I will update you so don't worry." He gets up and nods and says "Thank you, Mon Chou," he then exits the office, Nova follows. He takes his coat off the rake and bids her farewell, walking out the door.
Shit Lianne. Nova heads up to her apartment immediately to tend to her secretary. The elevator doors open, and she gets in, wiping out her phone and texting Lianne telling her that she's coming up. Nova's apartment is on the top of the three-story building. A training/interrogation/debriefing/holding area was the second floor. The doors open, and she gets to her hallway and opens the door into her apartment.
"Lianne, where are you," Nova doesn't shout, but projects her voice into the apartment. Lianne responds with a shaky, "y-your room". Nova then grabs the first aid kit from the main bathroom and walks into her room. She sees Lianne sitting on her bed, shaking like a leaf. "I... I'm sorry for what I said and did down there, I don't know what came over me. So... so," as Lianne struggles to find the word, Nova completes her sentence, "Magnetic". Lianne nods, her eyes puffy from crying.
"I don't blame you, he is a vampire after all, it can't be helped, you were overwhelmed by his hormones," Nova tries to console her. She then tends to Lianne's frost burn, it's not to bad it's in early stages a pale yellow color. Nova gets up and gets a towel, wets it and warms it slightly. She then applies the warm towel to the area, essentially defrosting her.
"Thank you, that feels much better." Her voice sounded so small and tired. It was around 11:00 it had taken around an hour to talk to Cairo. "Why don't you take the rest of the day off, Lianne, go home and relax? How about you call Oliver to pick you up, okay, honey." Oliver was Lianne's boyfriend, who happened to be a warlock.
