Sometimes I wish I had a gladiator mentality; the ability to fight back, to hold my own- to know that I don't have to change for anyone, let alone Y/N.

"Awsten?" (he/she) sounded serious, so I looked up. We locked eyes. Mistake #1. God, I could lose myself in those eyes; It's like they can see my future clearer than I can.

(He/She) took a deep breath.

"Have you ever wanted kids?" (he/she) asked. I could tell (he/she) was anxious for my response.

"Yeah! I've always wanted them!" I exclaimed, excitedly. Mistake #2.

"Well..." Shit. I should've been cryptic, not give a flat out, definite answer. What was I thinking? "The thing is, I... I don't want any. I thought it would be better if I told you," (he/she) choked out, struggling to keep (his/her) composure.

"Oh... Uh... That's ok. Besides, we don't have the time anyway," I stutter, laughing nervously, unsure of what else I could possibly say. Mistake #3.

"Awsten, you don't have to kid yourself. I just want you to be happy. If you're that enthusiastic about having kids, I'll reconsider,"

"No. Trust me, it's fine. You don't have to do that. I'd never force to you live a life you don't want to,"

It's clearly not fine if  you're that passionate about having kids. I've just crushed your dreams  in less than a minute!" (He/She) screamed.

"My dreams are about you. I dream about what I have, not what I want," I say softly, as I put my arm around (him/her).

(He/She) melts into me, (his/her ) breath shaking as (he/she) tries to calm down.

"I'll love you no matter what," I whisper into (his/her) ear.
