My entire body stiffened at the sound of his voice. I was dumb enough to think they had both left.
"Now tell me what you're doing here" he questioned with a cool tone, no sign of rage or anger.
I slowly turned to face him only to find myself being met with the cool surface of a gun resting on top of my forehead. The rate of my heart spiked, I no longer had control of it.
" I thought no one was in" I kept my voice calm, showing him I wasn't afraid when really I felt like dropping on my knees.
"Liar" the click of the gun was the loudest noise in the room.
Fabiano's eyes scanned me from head to toe. Those grey hues marking my skin with every move until he left no where untouched by his gaze.
"Luca's daughter. Aren't you?" His lips twitched. The sound of his leather gloves clenching tighter onto the gun. "what a shame"
But before he could pull the trigger, I yelped " I can help". My mind couldn't function in this moment. The only instinct to survive erased all logic.
He let out a dark laugh "nice try, I'll tell him it was quick"
"Wait. I know things, I know when he plans on attacking the bratva in Whitney directly in the middle of their strip club"
I saw his hand gently loosen around the handle but he kept it their. Taking that as I good sign, I carried on. "I could tell you he plans on making Jason Leverson the next Chicago Mayer".
My mouth wouldn't stop. It kept spilling and spilling no longer able to stop the waterfall of words that left with each breath.
He tipped his head up "now why would you betray your poor old man" the right brow arched in question.
There was a million reasons I could come up with on why I would betray my father and my life was on the top of the list. " I have my reasons".
"How do I know you're not lying" he returned his grip on the gun. hearing his leather gloves squeak felt like my life line. Right now it was on limbo.
"Maybe I am" I shrugged forgetting I had a gun pressed against my head "you shouldn't trust me either"
"Exactly"
"But call it instinct. I just told you two of my fathers biggest missions. I'd die anyways from my fathers hand if he even suspected I told you so really I don't win either way". That's all my father needed. I suspicion and my life would have been for nought. My plan would have failed and I'd be buried besides my mother.
I couldn't give up on what I have been creating. Five years of endless nights and thousands of google searches would have been nothing but a game. My mother wouldn't be avenged and I'd remain in my fathers clutches playing his perfect puppet.
No longer remained the metal on top of my forehead. I watched as Fabiano placed his gun besides him. The look of the wheels in his mind turning whilst he processed what I told him.
His eyes shot up to meet mine and I held onto his gaze. He raised the gun placing the tip underneath my chin, tilting my head up "you're a brave one. Aren't you" he laughed.
"Fine" he turned walking the opposite direction just to walk back towards me " each week while I'm still here, I want a report on what your father does, says, who he meets up anything. Do you understand."
"One condition" I rose my voice so he could hear me clear.
Fabiano's face changed from utter delight to surprising shock "oh" his face now covered in dark rage "your life is the condition"
"Can't be a condition if I'm not living" before he could interrupt me, I continued " I would rather die then remain a second longer in this house"
"That's no my problem" he pointed out " you'll have to talk to your old man about that".
I shook my head ignoring his words "no, only you can do that"
"And how would I do that?"
"Marry me".
The room grew silence. I didn't know who was more surprised Fabiano or me. My hands felt sticky and the sweat that leaked from my forehead made things worse. His silence excruciating, nothing but his low breaths. staring at me as if he was peeling each layer of my skin to try and find who was really behind all that flesh.
"No" the words felt like a bullet through my heart.
"Then I'm keeping my mouth closed" I was standing my ground. I still needed to figure out what type of man he was.
Fabiano strides became longer the sheer power mixed with underlining anger circled him with every step towards me. "Is that so?" His eyes no longer grey, Darkness filled them "have you forgotten who I am?"
"No I haven't" I answered "but I have ambitions just like you"
"I should just shoot you right now" he scoffed "you're waisting precious time"
"Then do it" I picked up his forearm where the gun lazily rested on his hand. I hadn't missed the small flinch in his arm, but I chose to ignore it placing the head on top of my heart.
" I have nothing to lose, where as you. You have everything. Without me you wouldn't get the information you made this pointless alliance for"
His brows furrowed together "why do you want to marry me?" He sounded curious this time.
"I want to be free"
"You aren't going to be free if you marry me"
"Anywhere away from here is free. I don't care if I'm locked in chains beneath your basement. As long as I'm out of here"
"You're crazy" he clipped.
"Aren't we all" I let out a heavy sign " you need me more then I need you. Think about it.
I'm not asking for a real marriage, only real enough that I'm out of here" taking another deep breath.Fabiano pulled his arm away from my grip "you get me my information and I'll give you 'freedom' whatever you want to call it." he stuck out his available hand wrapped in leather.
"Deal" I clasped onto it.
"You're stuck with me now dear".
At that moment I realised I had just made a deal with the devil and there was no hole, no corner I could escape too.
I was trapped.
