thoughts ran wild in my mind as i lay staring at my empty finger.
the finger that Fabiano had put a promise on it.
the promise of freedom.

i was going to be free.

away from my father, away from my sister, away from the torture that i had endured for the past 18 years of my existence.

this was it. i thought to myself. this was finally it.

"what did he say to you". the door swung open slightly denting the wall as my father walked inside, a hand curled to his side.

i quickly sat up turning to face him.

"i don't understand" i replied as my back quickly stiffened aware at who stood inside my room.

"don't play dumb little girl you know exactly what i meant" each word came rushing out with every step he took, moving closer and closer "what did Fabiano say to you"

My body became cautious as sweat filled my palms curled into a fist next to my thighs. "all he wanted to do was give me my ring" i hurriedly answered.

My fathers shadow crept towards me engulfing any light that remained. He let out a harsh laugh staring at the girl in front of him.

staring at his dead wife's child. The child he had abused for far too long.

"If you think a man like Fabiano is going to save you, think again" his voice a harsh tone. " He is not someone you can play with and neither am i. the only place you'll end up is next to your mother"

His body leaned forward closer to mine reeking of strong cologne and alcohol.

in an instant his hand grabbed my own pulling it towards him as his fingers clenched mine slowly squeezing them together.

"If i find out you've been hiding something from me i'll make sure you'll never walk down that aisle" My father snarled his grip becoming tighter.

My fingers throbbed and the pain grew, but i was smart enough to know if i let out a single wince it would only get worse.

"I SEND DO YOU UNDERSTAND?" He boomed.

All i could do was nod until finally he released my bruised fingers and stormed his way out of the door.

i held my breath watching his silhouette move further and further before i quickly got up closing the door behind him.

My body slid down onto the floor.

panic flooded my insides. i didn't know where to turn. but most importantly i had no one to turn to.

i knew what i was doing was going to get me killed but for some reason it had fully dawned on me now that neither Fabiano nor my father would make sure i would make it out of this situation alive.

i couldn't take this anymore, i couldn't do this anymore. each passing moment was torture, each breath felt like a punishment, i was only hear because of my mother. because instead of torturing her, he would make me pay for her actions.

My body curled itself into a ball as silent tears fell from my eyes.

This is all i was, someone helpless and afraid.

Dinner was silent that evening.

no one had joined us tonight. Carlos and his father had flew back to Philadelphia that same afternoon and Fabiano had business he needed to attend too.

All that remained sitting around the dinner table was father and my stepmother and sister.

"how was your day" Bianca smiled as she tried to hold a conversation with her husband but he seemed to be too occupied with the tablet in front of him.

He made a gruff noise returning to the screen in front of him.

i watched as she rolled her eyes turning her attention to Gia who's attention was on her phone.

"how about you my cupcake" Bianca questioned.

Gia clicked her tongue as her fingers moved "it was good. daddy can i invite a few friends over" completely ignoring her mother.

"why?" My father questioned his eyes still remaining in front of him.

Gia shrugged placing her phone besides her giving her full attention that a small irritated noise escaped My stepmothers lips.

"well" She began "it's going to be a beautiful day on Friday that i thought we could use the pool."

My Father placed down his tablet returning his attention to his daughter "and how many of you are there" he said raising a brow.

"like maybe 5 or 6. but i promise there are no boys" she quickly answered.

My father never placed down any rules for Gia when she was growing up except one, that she was not allowed any friends of the opposite gender with the acceptation of Carlos.

It was a way of showing the Mob world that his daughter was someone pious, something he protected. To stop any rumours from occurring that would ruin his reputation because to him that's all that mattered.

He gave her a stern look before responding "fine, but on the condition Juliette is with you".

"wait, what" we both spoke glancing at one another.

"you heard me" was all he said as he got up from his seat.

My father stopped for a moment turning to face us one more time "and if i find out she's not with you there will be consequences". finally exiting the room.

"thanks for ruining everything" Gia snarled.

"your welcome" and i smiled.
