A Starry Night

One Bumpy Ride Later

I told her I didn't want to go. I thought to myself as the bus hit a bump. "What are you thinking about?" The boy next to me asked. "Nice to meet you too" I replied. "Sorry, you looked irritated at whatever you were thinking about I'm Zeke, what's your name?" He answered guiltily. "Nice to meet you Zeke, I'm Sylvia." This was gonna be one long summer, the both of them thought to themselves silently. After what felt like hours pasted Zeke decided to speak up. "How long do you think its been? Shouldn't we already be there?" Zeke waited a few seconds before looking over to see Sylvia who was sleeping away with her head against his shoulder. Zeke smiled to himself because he knew they were going to be best friends. He realized it would be best to sleep now as the beds were gonna be super uncomfortable so, he leaned his head against the old busted up window and fell asleep a few minutes later.

 Sylvia was waken by Zeke who was shifting around due to the bus driver letting all the passengers know that they were ten minutes away. Zeke quickly realized that he woke up Sylvia and apologized. "Its alright we would have had to wake up in ten minutes anyway." Zeke nodded in agreement and stared outside. "Its so pretty don't you think?" Sylvia asked Zeke "Yeah, its beautiful." For the last ten minutes of the ride the two soon to be counselors sat next to each other admiring the nature outside the old camp bus. Around ten minutes later a girl around their age came up to Sylvia and Zeke and tapped on Sylvia's shoulder. Zeke quickly turned his head as he felt Sylvia jump. They both looked up at the young girl. "Sorry for scaring you, I'm Lili a CIT" Lili says holding her hand out to greet us. Zeke was waiting for Sylvia to shake her hand but she was still startled. Zeke quickly noticed and took Lili's hand. "Sorry she's jumpy. Nice to meet you Lili, I'm Zeke and this Sylvia. Sylvia realized her abstinence and quickly added in "Sorry, It's nice to meet you. We are counselors." Lili shook her head and smiled. "I came over here to tell you it's time to head off the bus. Zeke and Sylvia then looked around and realized they were some of the only people still on the bus. They thanked Lili, grabbed their bags and followed her off the bus. 

As they stepped off the bus Sylvia looked at Zeke and said "we have to the look for the boss." Zeke nodded, grabbed Sylvia's hand and started walking towards a table with a sign that said cabin check-in. "Hi I'm Zeke and this is Sylvia can you tell us what cabin we are in?"  Zeke asked kindly. "Ahh yes I see, nice to meet you guys my name is W-w-T-Tom. My name is Tom." Zeke and Sylvia both looked at each other in confusion. Tom noticed and spoke up. "You guys are staying together as counselors in Cabin #3." Sylvia smiled and looked at Zeke to see him smiling with her. "Lets go then Zeke what are we waking for?" Sylvia asked impatiently "Meet us at the Main campfire in around fifteen minutes." Tom told the pair as Sylvia was dragging Zeke by his hand to their cabin. Sylvia without turning around gave Tom a thumbs up with her remaining hand.

 After a couple of minutes of misreading maps and signs they found their cabin. When they opened their door everyone in the cabin seemed to look up. "Hey Zeke and Sylvia. I'm your CIT for the summer." Lili said with a smile as she appeared from the back room. Zeke waved and Sylvia smiled looking around at the decorated cabin each bunk bed decorated to match their style. As Sylvia slowly scanned the room admiring it her eyes make it to a pair of girls standing together giggling at something. She couldn't help but smile at that sight but her eyes were quickly saddened when she saw a boy younger then all of them standing in  the corner. "Our beds are back here if you guys wanna start unpacking." Lili told the two counselors. "Go on without me. I'll be right there." Sylvia whispered so only Zeke can hear. Zeke was unsure why but nodded his head and walked into the other room following Lili.

 The other two girls were unpacking do Sylvia left them alone. Sylvia walked up to the scared young boy, 0crouched down and said "Hi I'm Sylvia and my friend who was with me is Zeke. What's your name?" The young boy looked scared. "I-I'm Phil." He stuttered Sylvia understood he was scared and said "How old are you Phil?" In an attempt to make conversation. "I'm five years old. What about you?" Phil asked. "Wow your five I'm eighteen. I know it's probably scary but I will be here whenever you need me." Phil smiled and pulled the older girl into a hug. Sylvia smiled knowing that the young boy trusted her. "I'm gonna call you Sylvie" Phil tells her. "Sylvia, come put away your stuff!" A voice calls out. Sylvia doesn't have to turn around to know it was Zeke. "I'll come get you when I'm done okay?" Sylvia asked Phil nodded so Sylvia got up from the hug and walked into the next room. Lili wasn't there she's probably in the bathroom Sylvia thought to herself. She walked over to the bed Zeke was laying on. He was reading. The young girl sat at the edge of the bed.

It took him a couple of seconds but Zeke noticed and set his book down beside him. "Need something?" He asked with a smile "No I'm just bored." Sylvia replied "Oh okay Sylvie.." Zeke said carefully not knowing how the girl will react. Sylvia stared at the boy for about a minute until suddenly they both burst out laughing. "We have to take the kids and go to the main campfire for the rules." Lili says coming out of the bathroom brushing her hair. Sylvia and Zeke nod and get the rest of the children to take them but before they make it out the door Phil says "Can you carry me Sylvie?" One of the girls from their cabin rolls her eyes and the other one elbows her. "Of course I can!" Sylvia responses Zeke smiles and hold the door open for everyone to go through.
