Chapter 5:Unexpected Guest

It is a Sunday. It did not matter to me but for Vanessa, she have to attend a party at her parent's annual charity ball. I was invited by Vanessa and i had mixed feelings about it.

First: I did not tell a soul about my identity and this 'party' might end in a disaster. That was an excuse, Vanessa might think bad of me because of the lack of information i gave her.

Second: I simply hate the fact that Vanessa is dragged into her family business. Again. judging by my attitude, this party might also end in a disaster. This is just an excuse but i did not want her parents to think bad of me

Third: I do not want our relationship to end, this party might rip Vanessa apart and the worries i have isn't going to just go away, i hesitated. However, i feel guilty and i thought Vanessa should find a partner soon. 

A different pain erupted. I shrugged.

Anyway, for the month that has passed, i was surprised to find that Vanessa took a break from her studies. She looked matured and carried herself well. I am a mere 18 years old, still fighting her old scars.

For the thousandth time, Vanessa urged me to attend and join her, telling me i would be fine in the ball party.

I clench my fists, it has been a habit of mine. At last, i agreed to her irresistible hopeful smile, lighting up when i said yes. My face have to slip and soften at that.

The party was held at the afternoon, i wore a black tux, my plain black hair shines with it and Vanessa gives me a satisfied smile, coming out from her changing room. We pretty enjoyed the fine silk of the clothing, although Vanessa used her credit card.

The ball was crowded with people of different countries and some were the famous of people. Vanessa and i weren't nervous but i was roughly uncomfortable.

I came here, knowingly i do not have a single cent to donate

"Jester. You work for me."

Vanessa pulls me away from my thoughts by touching my stiff shoulder, as i heave a sigh when we entered the ball room. I walked closely with Vanessa, as she seemed to always know what I am thinking.

We settle at the corner of the room and the speaker welcomes with his introduction and speech.

"Welcome to our annual~..."

The formality of this 'party' already bores me. I smoothly avoid the crowd, some of them are politics, speaking to others about the economy. While some are attentively listening to the speaker on the stage.

Vanessa and I accompanied each other while she had to speak with some of her company rivals and others that i do not have an idea about. I did recognize some of them but i do not engage conversation with them. The pained speech ends and Vanessa's parents arrive, the crowd erupted in appeases for them and Vanessa went to greet them as i bow beside her.

"Honey! It is great that you came down to join us! Oh is this your friend you've been talking about?"

"Yes, this is jester ikitou." Both of Vanessa's parents seem very happy to see Vanessa and i speak with my deep voice

"Hello, Mrs and Mr. Grimme. I am Jester." I smile and shake their welcoming hands

"Oh! So you are the one that our Vanessa has been talking about:" The father speaks up, his strong brown eyes glazing at me. So fathers can be caring towards their own daughters. I relax.

"Honey, go enjoy yourself, find yourself a suitor here besides hanging around this fine lady, i want to speak to your friend a little-"

"Mother! You know i do not want one and yes, you can speak to her but please do return her" Vanessa excuses herself and i stand, tensed at her absence. i look like a lost puppy without her.

"Do not worry jester, i just want to talk to you a little.Your father was actually one of our business rivals. I heard of his passing. Are you coping well without him?"

"Ah yes. I am taking a break before jumping back to managing the Ikitou company." I say smoothly, my eyes watering with sweat. Reviving the memories.

His father spoke. "Listen. I knew that our companies has been very uncooperative and we have been rivals. But i want to merge our companies together to defeat one of the companies here. The Gukrit company sells drugs and has under ground business that are corrupted and want to destroy our system now and he wants to change it. That will destroy the balance we hold now. If the Gukrit succeeds. Everyone will go poor and the country might go into chaos. I am building business partners as much as possible to go against the Gukrit." Mr. Grimme seeps out a dark aura, telling me that the Gukrit has seriously offended him and he is unhappy.

"His daughter stalked Vanessa and she has been threatened before, living in a very unbearable situation, i want to protect her but she insisted not for me to 'interfere'. I heard that you can protect her, please do protect her for me."

This spark my interest.

"Was she hurt?"

"No, we managed to get her help before Gukrit got too close, but Vanessa start being more colder and got really traumatized--. This is the first time she was ever so carefree and glowing. ."

"I see.. how much was she hurt mentally? i would be more than happy to help out. We can arrange another meeting for us because this place is hardly a place for us to talk."

"Haha, yes sure. If you lose the voice. I can actually let you have my daughter--" He joked.

Suddenly, the door bursts open with a few white yakuza members holding their heavy swords and pipes. flow in. The entire crowd arise in panic and charge towards the exit while the new 'guests' clamour with courage

" Hand over Vanessa Grimme or we will-"

I threw my foot over to his face before he says anything. Vanessa fortunately joins her parents as i gestured an 'out' sign to them. Vanessa's father got the message and ushered his family to the exit.

The Yakuza gang leader stands up, surprise written on his face

"You are--"
