First Shift

The bass of the music reverberated through my body as I worked my shift. It was dark if not for the many colourful lights flashing in every direction and the strobes around the dance floor. There were hundreds of guests in this club at this very moment and it was me and Krista in the VIP bar upstairs. I had been assigned upstairs for my first shift as it was more calm than downstairs at the main bar. The customers upstairs were a lot more elegant than those downstairs. There was still a dance floor upstairs but it wasn't even half the size of the one below, and it was surrounded by red velvet booths. Ymir was working the security upstairs, standing by the curling stairs and making sure that only the VIP guests got into this area.

I hadn't messed up so far, due to Krista having my back. If there was a drink that I didn't know how to make, she was right there to talk me through it. We didn't even have to leave the bar as there were servers to take the drinks from us to any guests in the booths. The two servers were friendly enough too, as they had sat at the bar chatting to me just before we opened. The girl was Isabel. She had short, auburn hair tied in two pigtails at the back of her head and emerald green eyes and boy, was she energetic. She told me she was only 20, but because she was like a little sister to the boss, he had let her work here. The guy beside her was Farlan Church and he was also part of their apparent little friends group. He was tall with dark blonde hair and sleek grey eyes and he seemed to be a lot more calm than Isabel.

Despite getting a vibe of being very childish from Isabel, she did her job well and the guests upstairs seemed to adore her. I got the impression she would be a good person to be friends with, Farlan too. I had just finished preparing an order that Isabel was going to take over to a table before I could catch a breather. Everyone upstairs seemed to have a drink at the moment so I trailed off to the side to drink some water, even though we were only behind the bar, it was roasting inside the club due to how many bodies were inside.

Isabel soon came back and sat at one of the stools at the edge of the bar and started chatting to me about random things, Krista coming to join us not long after. The three of us were so engrossed in conversation that we didn't notice the figure close by until he sat on the stool next to Isabel and cleared his throat. The other two girls squeaked and cleared off almost immediately, leaving me dumbfounded as to what was going on.

I looked at the man sat at the bar; he was rather short with ebony hair that was parted in the middle and a military cut underneath, and the coldest grey eyes I'd ever met. He was pale which made the bags under this eyes stand out that bit more, yet it didn't make him look bad. He wore a black shirt, with the top two buttons undone giving people the slightest glimpse of the collarbones poking out of them. Despite the fact he was short and slim, he seemed lean and I could see the definition of his muscles tightening the sleeves of the shirt when he crossed his arms over his chest. Once I was done devouring him with my eyes, I noticed him lift an eyebrow at me and the smallest hint of smirk leave his face.

"Good evening sir, can I get you anything to drink?" I stepped forward, smiling at him as charmingly as I could manage, but I had to admit this man made me nervous. In what way, I couldn't tell. He seemed to look me up and down, I probably imagined it, but with a glint of something feral in his eyes, before a 'tch' came out of those perfect lips of his. Rude.

"Get me a whiskey, on the rocks." He stated bluntly with that smooth voice and I was just about to set off to make the drink when I looked at him again and paused, raising my eyebrow at him. He seemed to understand what I was waiting for when he smirked again. "Please." I smiled again and turned around to make his drink, cursing myself when I didn't ask what whiskey he wanted.

Krista must have seen me struggling because she came over to grab what she needed to make the drinks that Farlan just asked her for and kept her voice low when speaking. "Top shelf, bottle with the white label and gold top. Most expensive one." She smiled at me before finishing up her drinks and going back to her side of the bar. I scanned the shelves and found the bottle she was talking about, making me wonder who this guy was to be asking for such an expensive drink. I finished up quickly and served him his drink, leaving the empty bottle on the side ready to replace it in case this guy wanted to order more. He examined it for a minute before nodding and taking a sip, turning his head to look out over the club.

I cleared my throat, looking at the ebony haired male before asking him, "So, would you like to pay cash or card sir?". He spun back round, looking almost amused at my question, still not saying anything to me. From my peripheral vision, I could see Krista signaling no, confusing me even more. Who was this guy and why didn't he have to pay? "Apologies sir, I wasn't aware. It's my first night on the job." I smiled apologetically and bowed my head slightly, lifting it to see his reaction.

"Don't worry. You might want to get a new bottle of that though, I'll be here all night." His steel eyes bore into my own intensely and I don't know why but my heart skipped a beat and I had to catch a breath because of the way he looked at me. I nodded and smiled before walking over to the empty bottle and taking it with me, letting Krista know I'd be going to storage for a moment to get a new one.

The storage room was all the way down the stairs and at the other side of the club to where the upstairs bar was, meaning I had to take the longer way around as I wasn't allowed to just cross the floor downstairs apparently. It didn't take long but it was a pain in the butt. But it gave me a minute to think about that guy upstairs. He was probably the most attractive man I'd ever seen in my life, and I immediately felt guilty for thinking that when Armin's face flashed in my mind. I loved Armin but just not romantically anymore, and that made everything worse because I knew I couldn't tell him how I felt. I had nowhere to go, he was the only family I had left.

I was so engrossed in my little thought trail and finding the new bottle of the whiskey that I didn't hear anybody come in to the storage room behind me until the door closed. I jumped up, thankful I wasn't holding a bottle as it definitely would have been smashed on the floor. That's when I saw who had followed me, said person leaning against with his back against the door, smirking at me.

"What are you doing here?"

I wonder who's behind her, ey? So predictable it's barely a cliffhanger. I had to end it there though, because I try get about 1,000 words a chapter and this one has gone very much over. I'm getting into the writing now, it's just coming out. I hope I made Levi sound enough like the snack he absolutely is. xD
