I woke up to two different giggles coming from the foot of my bed. I peeped my eye open and saw Theo and Harrison, Hunter's son. I popped up and scared them. I grabbed them and pulled them to me as they laughed.
"What are you munchkins up to this early?" I asked.
"We wanted you to to take us to Chuck E. Cheese." Harrison smiled.
"What are you? Four years old?" I asked.
"Yes, I am!" He said. I laughed.
"Alright. Go shower, brush your teeth, and get dressed. I'll do the same, and we meet in the garage in like 40 minutes." I said.
"Y/N, I can't count to 40." Theo complained.
"Why not? You just count the numbers. Duh." I said.
"Y/NNNNN." She complained.
"Fine. Fine. Whenever we're ready we meet in the garage. Lets go team!" I said. They raced to the spare bedroom they slept in to get ready. I got out of bed and did my normal routine. When I was getting dressed Ariana called.
"Hi, Y/N." She said.
"Hi, Ariana." I smiled.
"Whatcha doing?" She asked.
"I'm about to take Theo and Harrison to Chuck E. Cheese against my will." I said.
"Please let me come. I'm so bored. Please." She said.
"Alright, come over to my house right now." I told her.
"Already on the way." She said hanging up. I shook my head and threw on my t-shirt. I put on some basketball shorts and sanuks and walked out of my room. The kids were downstairs playing on their iPads.
"Which car are we taking today?" I asked.
"I wanna take the truck!" They both said.
"Y'all bout as country as me. Come on." I said. We walked outside to my lifted white Raptor Ford F-150. I helped them in and opened the garage. Ariana was standing outside.
"What in the yee yee hell is this?" Ariana asked.
"This is my truck." I smiled. She struggled to climb in the passenger seat. I drove out of the garage and started to Chuck E. Cheese.
"I would have never thought of you to own a truck." Ariana laughed.
"How come?" I asked.
"Well because you're not a redneck." She said.
"True but I am from Georgia." I said.
"Are you serious?" She asked.
"Very. That's where I was the first fourteen years." I said.
"I'm not trying to pry or anything obviously, but you just never really talk about your life before you were adopted." Ariana said.
"Yeah I know. I don't really talk about it with anyone." I said. I looked back and the kids were sleeping. "My parents were really abusive. They were like hardcore drug addicts and they got me addicted at a super young age. It was really traumatic."
"I'm so sorry, Y/N. You don't have to talk about it if you don't want to." She told me.
"No, it's okay. I really like you, and I want you to know about me." I told her. She gave me a gentle smile.
"So you've been clean for how long?" She asked me.
"It's been three years. I was clean for six years when I was in the Marines, but I relapsed after I got out. Heroin is a really really hard drug to get off of. Like everyday is a struggle, but I get through it." I said.
