"So why did you switch their homework?" I asked Honda. We were sitting across from each other in his apartment after school. Lately I felt like we'd nearly bumped into our students too many times when we were out on dates, so this was where we'd be meeting for the time being.
He looked up from his phone, careful to angle it so I couldn't see what he was doing. I was used to him doing that, but it still annoyed me.
"Because, I used to be popular back in high school too. And I know how dangerous it can be." He had a smug aura around him, like I should be grateful he'd picked me.
"I don't believe that for a second. You're not even popular in the teacher's lounge."
"I was incredibly popular, how do you think I got you?"
I was halfway done making up another insult when I realized he'd complimented me. Despite my best efforts I felt my face turning red. "Alright, maybe you were a little popular."
"Great. Now let's get married so we can stop hiding our relationship from the school."
"Are you going to stop online gambling?"
He picked his phone back up. "I'll try asking you again next month."
Author's note: Thanks to everyone who followed along with this story. Thanks to that guy in Indonesia who read it, and the other guy who left a comment telling me to stop taking such long hiatuses. Usually people make something really good then start going on long breaks, but I did it backwards (humble brag). Stay tuned for my next big story which has a girl made out of tea.
