The date was June 11, 1941.

The War Of The Nations had just begun.

Montverde found itself in a heated feud with Nordame. Both countries were in favor of taking over the South Sea and the coastal province of Galyette- a dependent state lying under Montverde's wing from the beginning.

Of course, a lot of lives were lost. As soon as dawn rose, gunshots and rockets created noises, ousting the humming of birds, replacing the serenity of what was once peaceful towns and neighborhoods. Soldiers roamed about, exchanging bullets with their enemies. Civilians considered running into shelters and hiding underground as their daily routine. Food went scarce, so did clean water. Prices inflate. Essential stocks underwent shortage. Things have changed drastically and one community in Montverde proved it so.

"Gaaaaaarghh!"

"Madam, deep breaths for me! You can do it! You're almost there!"

"I can't.. It hurts so much.. Argghhh!"

"Please, ma'am! One more push!"

Nurse Y/N patiently encouraged a pregnant woman into delivery. As a staff in a run-down hospital, her first duty early in the morning was to function as a midwife since all the doctors tended walk-in surgeries to the wounded Montverde troops.

"Make it stop.. Argghhh!"

"I can feel the baby's head, ma'am! It's okay! Push!"

"I can't.. Take it.. Anymore!"

Y/N dampened a cloth into lukewarm water and held it over the lady's forehead. She gently shushed her, insisting words of affirmation as she supported the infant's weight in her hands. The woman screeched one last time, gushing her child out in ease. Tiny cries erupted in the room. Y/N held the kid up, wiped off the blood, and wrapped him in a blanket.

"It's a healthy baby boy," she cooed. "Well done, mama. Congratulations."

Weak and shaky, the mother held her son in her arms. Y/N, contented, scurried to keep away her things and prepare a simple meal for the patient- bread and water. It's all the hospital could offer, considering the amount of nurses and doctors who needed to share with the rations too.

"I'll leave your lunch on the bedside," Y/N smiled. "Do eat when you best feel like it."
