Chapter 2

The sun was burning as I woke up.  I stretched as I got up, hitting my head in the process. I looked around, and smelled for anything that would be nearby.  I didn’t want to fight, at least not this early in the morning.

I sniffed. Something was here, close. I felt like eyes were being bored into me. I slowly untied my stuff for my legs, and carefully turned around.

“Stay right where you are,” a guy said. He was tall, his limbs looking like they were stretched. His clothes barely fit him, his pants above his ankles. His shoes were scuffed, and his feet looked like he was going to bust out of them. His arms were elongated too, positioned with his rifle that was pointed at me. “Don’t move.” Even though those words were supposed to be threatening, I wanted to do something. He looked completely delicious. Having to not eat in a few days, he looked like the best meal ever. I licked my lips, my mouth already starting to water.

“You think that toy is going to hurt me?” I snorted. “You could try shooting me if you like, but I wouldn’t. You would have some serious hell to pay.” And a meal for me, I added in my head.

The boy checked himself for a minute, straightening his glasses. He shivered and then straightened himself. “Cocky, aren’t you? I’m just trying to survive. And you have some stuff that I need, so get out of my way, or I’ll make you.” He edged closer, but I could tell he hesitated. He looked like a total nerd, the type that would play online video games for hours. He was totally not cut out for a life like this and he knew it. I felt bad for the wuzz even though I really wanted to kill him. If I could get out of this, I would too.

“I’ll tell you what. You put the gun down before you hurt yourself, and go away.” My mouth betrayed my stomach, but he was too innocent to kill even though it wouldn’t take long.  I bent down to pick up my stuff, slinging my backpack over my shoulder and picking up my umbrella. I stared at him in the eye, smirking, just to annoy him. Hell, this wasn’t how I wanted to start my morning.

“I’m serious. Don’t make me do something I really don’t want to do.” The boy said quivering. He was threatening to kill me, something that I was sure of he couldn’t do.    The poor punk was trying to man up. I pitied him, although I knew that I shouldn’t. He could easily be my future meal.

“What the hell do you want anyway? You’re seriously annoying me now.” Agitated was more like the right word. Knowing that a potential meal was right within my reaches, put my mind was talking my instincts out of it.

“I need help. My mother is sick. She’s totally zoned out. I don’t know what to do, and she hasn’t got much long left. Please I beg you; she’s the only one I got.” The nerd pleaded. I wanted to say no, knowing that if I went the temptation would be almost unbarring. But I could tell his mom meant something to him, and if I could’ve saved my parents I would’ve.

I deliberated this in my mind, my body angled. The nerd put his gun down, it now hung loosely to his side. An easy kill, not even having a way to defend himself. “Alright,” I said, walking towards despite my better judgment. “Show me where she is.”
