Small and trembling was the body that cried in the crook of a meaty arm.
"Do you recall our... three-pointed leaves Osanna?"
"Our leaves, from the stream?"
"The same." The man sighed painfully, a small trail of blood tracing an outline from the edge of his lips to the back of his jaw, the corner of his eyes sadly watching as his own blood dripped upon the head of the young girl.
"When you look at them... as they age, they merge into one. A full-grown leaf Osa. Once three, now one. You understand... what I'm telling you right now?"
The weak sniffles carried an even weaker yes in reply.
"You will be lonely...but you will not be...alone," the man looked down at the child he cradled, his eyes dimming as he finally breathed in, smiling one last time for the girl before him.
"בַּת, till we meet again."
