After fetching another round for the sailors, Brandy takes off her apron and heads out back. Sterling is already out there gazing at the stars. "I was beginning to think you wouldn't show up," he says still looking at the stars.
"I was busy."
"Busy being lonely again?" He finally looks at her, but Brandy lowers her eyes. "I know it isn't easy."
"Look I have a living to make; if you're going to keep‒"Sterling immediately pulls her in for a kiss on the lips. Her eyes widen as they pull away. "What was that for?"
"To shut you up; besides I love you, Brandy! I want you to be with me...come away with me."
"I-I can't. I can't leave Sid." Sterling lowers his eyes sadly.
"I figured you'd say that." He pulls the box out of his pocket."I have to leave tomorrow, but before I do. I want you to have this." Sterling hands the box to Brandy. Brandy slowly opens the box to reveal a shiny, sterling silver locket on a braided silver chain.
"Oh my goodness!" she gasps. "It's gorgeous!" Sterling smiles.
"Open it." Brandy looks at him in confusion. "Open the locket."Inside the locket is one of the photos the two of them took at the carnival. Brandy smiles and tears form in her eyes. "That's not all. Look on the back." Brandy turns the locket over; engraved in script font are the words To: Brandy Love, Sterling.
"Sterling, it's amazing!" With that she kisses and hugs him.
"Will you reconsider?"
"Oh, I wish I could‒"
"At least say you'll be here when I return next summer." Brandy nods.
"Of course." With that Sterling helps Brandy put on the necklace.Brandy clasps her hand over it and kisses Sterling again. "One summer things may change, but for now I'll stay here and wait for you to return."
"I'll return and wait patiently for that day."
