I lay in my room after after dinner, the day’s events crashed around inside my head, wave after wave of bone shattering flashbacks against my brain almost leaving me with a headache. So much happened and it was a lot to take but the one thing that annoyed the hell out of me was the lonely stranger. I don’t really know why it bothered it me so much, he was just another guy no different than anyone else in this crummy little town… Right?
I wanted to phone Geina and tell her what happened with Daimon but knowing she was spending the night at Orlaith’s I decided it was best not to bother her.
I’m pretty sure I can wait until tomorrow anyway. Immediately after thinking this however I quickly replayed the words in my head and the doubt washed over me, it feels like tomorrow is so far away.
I let out a sigh of annoyance and rolled of the bed, I walked towards the window pressing the power button to the computer which sprung to life with a beep and an almost blinding light from the monitor coming on with a welcome message.
Waiting for the computer to load I rested my folded arms on the windowsill feeling the brush of the cold wind against my face through the open window and allowed my eyes to focus on the dark sky. No stars tonight and the naked pale face in the sky shone bright silver over the glimmering old lampposts that blinked weakly into life. The streets were empty and all was quiet with the exception of the rustling from nearby bushes and hedges.
Bored with the lifeless scenery I turned my attention to the computer and slumped down into the swivel chair in front of it. The light from the monitor hurt my eyes so with quick movements and I attacked the light switch and returned to the comfortable swivel chair that spun slightly from the weight and speed of my movements. The light flooded the room and as my eyes adjusted I realised it was still too early to relax. The damn curtains are wide open. Not feeling the energy to repeat the tactic used for the light switch decided to try something different.
“Daimon! C’mere a minute it’s important” Hearing a door squeak open and the sound of approaching footsteps confirmed the success of my plan and placed my hand on the mouse, moving and clicking the cursor to open up the web browser. My own door creaked open and from the corner of my eye half of Daimon’s body peaked around the corner.
“Yeah? What is It?”
“Close the curtains for me little brother” my words were quickly followed by a complaining moan and I couldn’t help but laugh.
“Please, you’re here now anyway”
“Fine whatever, you’re so lazy you know that?” He entered the room and his footsteps became silent against the carpet on the floor.
“Not lazy brother just beat from all the day’s excitement.” I said, the words joined with the tapping of the key board.
With one swift movement of both arms gripped to each of the curtains Daimon pulled them shut and turned to rest his back against the windowsill.
“About that…” he said, “Are we cool”
“Of course, no grudges right, you shouldn’t have to ask”
“Yeah, you’re right I guess, sorry big brother.” I couldn’t help but detect a hint of sorrow in his tone and immediately knew what was bothering.
“Look I know what you’re thinking and you shouldn’t have worry too much about it ya know?
“Maybe, I just can’t help it, it’s been gnawing at me since we got home just that’s all.”
“It could have happened to anybody ya know? Don’t worry; I’m sure no one will find out that you were ripped off by a girl.” I said fighting back more laughter.
