Baths and Overheard Conversations

"Oh, (Y/N), will you be joining us for a bath?"

"Nope!"  I called, already walking past Yaoyorozu.

"O-oh, alright then!" She stuttered just a bit, doing her best to act unfazed.  "I suppose you'll be going during class 1-B's time."

I stopped mid-step, a slight frown on my face.  My original plan had been to bathe alone, but her words just jogged my memory to a particular event that was about to happen.  I sighed and let out a loud groan before spinning on my heel and walking back towards the girl.

"Oh, you've changed your mind!  Wonderful!" She grinned brightly, hope lighting up her features, and I rolled my eyes.

"I just don't want to be dirty.  I doubt I'd be allowed to go at another time, and I didn't want to take the chance," I responded monotonously, not even sparing her so much as a glance as I breezed past her.

"R-right," she ducked her head before following after me.

To be completely honest, that wasn't exactly true.  Vlad King's ideal situation was probably that I bathe all by myself with Aizawa and him watching the door.  But I was worried about Kota.  I'd already changed so much about this world, and it was clear that my presence alone affected everything; it could effect his fall, too.  For instance, if Midoriya noticed my absence and went to make sure I wasn't up to anything.  I was only going to make sure he stayed safe.

I wrapped the towel closer around my body as I stepped into the outdoor bath, trying to ignore how self-conscious I was feeling.  I really didn't want to be here right now.  Still, I closed my eyes and reminded myself that this was all about Kota, not me.  I could bear with it for his sake.

Slowly, I sank into the water, towel and all, as I avoided the gazes of my female classmates.  The bath felt cramped and yet at the same time way too large.  Quietly, I formed my tin can phone from some of the surrounding water.  I wouldn't be able to see Mineta clearly with all of the water and steam around us acting as interference, so I would have to rely on the tin can phone and my memory of the scene.  My brow furrowed in concentration as I positioned the phone. With such an open space, it was difficult to find the target I was aiming for.

"—are meant to be climbed!"  My eyes widened as I finally managed to catch Mineta's voice.  He was already climbing the wall.  Quickly, I grabbed ahold of the large cloud of steam and pushed it up so that there was a thick layer covering everyone.  About a second later, I managed to see Kota smacking Mineta back down and sighed in relief.  Problem A had been resolved without any issue.

"Mineta really is the worst, isn't he?" Tsu huffed nearby.

"Thanks so much, Kota babe!" Mina called out to the boy.  I frowned and did my best to thicken the cloud.  Hopefully this would be enough to keep his mind from wandering.

I watched him carefully, breathing another soft sigh of relief as he sent a disinterested look our way.  Unfortunately, though, I had made an incredibly dumb mistake.  With the massive increase in the height of the steam, some of the water had gathered at the top of the wall, and when he tried to turn around, his food slipped.  My eyes widened and my heart almost stopped as I shot my quirk out, forming a long rope with the steam.  I just barely managed to wrap it around his waist and catch him in time to hear Midoriya scream, "Look out!"  Carefully, I lifted him back over the wall and set him down in my arms before quickly carrying him out, completely ignoring the worried gazes of my classmates. I could deal with their fear of me later.

I was speed walking down the hallway a few seconds later, my breaths coming in short gasps.

This was my fault.  I did this.  It was my stupid mistake that caused him to slip.  All I wanted was to be able to protect one little kid, and I couldn't even do that!  God, I was so useless!
