When I was born my mother and father could not take care of me, they had to give me up for adoption. I was taken in by John and Elizabeth Hampton, they were wonderful parents to have. I had no brothers nor sisters, instead I had a dog named Charlie and an Arabian horse named Weston. Living in England with my birth parents would not have gone well for me, I found out when I was 12 that both of them had died from a car accident, so I grew up in America with my new mom and dad. My mother would always read me tales of the outlaw of Sherwood Forest by the name of Robin Hood. His stories always thrilled me despite having heard them a thousand times over. Mom would always ask if I had had enough of the stories yet but I would always reply
“Robin Hood never stopped doing good deeds, why should I stop hearing of good deeds.”
One time my mother retorted “He stopped when he died.” And I said “Then I shall also stop when I die.” Before covering up with my blanket.
I never really had many friends growing up, those who I did spend time with truly were not worth it. But when I was 17 years of age I went on a trip to Texas where I met my best friends who I love so dearly even still. Loria Fae is my closest friend. Without her this story would have been very different. It is her love and compassion which drove me to be good and it is thanks to her the others came to be my friends. Loria is my age, and she is as beautiful as she is smart. Her golden hair falls like a waterfall around her face adorned with her sweet smile. Loria is the one who introduced me to the Bellens. Mr. and Mrs. Bellen are the very kind parents of their three children: the twins Robert and Charles who are a year older than I, and to sweet Erin who is a year younger than Loria and myself. Charles is the eldest of the brothers and can have a bit of a temper, but is a good man at heart like his brother Robert. Erin is a spicy girl with a mane of red hair. It is most amusing to watch them argue amongst each other. But they loved each other dearly. Erin seemed to have an interest in a fellow by the name of Alex Witters. A funny blonde boy with a knack for making a mess, he was sweet to Erin though.
These five people would become my friends by the time I turned 13. I met the lot in Texas where my father was on business. I sat in the park reading and watching the older kids play a game of flag football in the field. Shortly a girl sat down next to me, a book also in her hand, and asked my name and inquired which book had my interest. I told her almost every book about heroes held my interest. She found the idea funny and chuckled to herself as she opened her own book.
“What are you reading may I ask?”
“A new book series called “Divergent”. I think it is one you might like. Here.” She said handing me her book. “I have already read it once before, I was rereading it because I can’t wait for the next part to come out. My number is inside the front cover, call me for my address when you finish it.” She smiled as she handed me the book before eating up and jogging over to a table where four others had just sat down to eat pizza and have some sodas. When Loria got there she said something to the group and motioned behind her where they all turned their heads looking at me. A red headed girl nodded and started walking towards me. I liked meeting new people but for whatever reason I was embarrassed so I quickly looked down and busied myself in my book.
I could hear her footsteps getting closer to me. I tried to appear lost in the book so that she might simply pass me.
“Hi, my name is Erin.” The beautiful girl said causing me to look up from my book. “My name is Maxine. Maxine Hampton.” I replied with a slight nod of the head.
“Well Maxine, my friends and I were wondering if you would like to sit with us. We have pizza and soda.” She said with a smile as she offered me her hand.
“Uh- Ok. Thank you.” I said with a slight smile as I took her hand.
I didn’t actually use her hand to help me up, I did that on my own. I just took her hand out of politeness. When I stood up I brushed myself off, for my bum was covered in dirt, and grabbed my backpack thrusting the book in it before slinging the bag carelessly over my shoulder. I waked over with Erin and sat down at the table next to a boy with blonde hair and braces. He smiled at me politely and handed me a plate with cheese pizza on it.
