With the start of the Spring term, talk of the Second Task starts also. It's announced to take place a month later and everything that has happened fades to the back of my mind as I get caught up in the excitement of the Second Task. I heard about the disaster that was opening the egg at the Gryffindor party. My friends and I speculated late at night what the clue was supposed to reveal.

Nora is the one to inform us when Cedric figures out the clue.

"The Second Task has to do with mermaids," she whispers to us as we all huddle around a table in the library.

Eyebrows go shooting up and Avianna is the first to speak.

"First dragons, now mermaids. They're really trying to kill the Champions, aren't they?" She laughs.

I can't help but agree. The tasks have been exceedingly dangerous, especially after Harry's dragon escaped.

"There are rumors that there are mermaids in the Black Lake. That could be where the task will be," I say, choosing to abandon my potions essay. I give a pointed look to my three Slytherins. Their common room is partially under the lake so if anyone can confirm, it would be them.

Mini simply shrugs but a dangerous light glints in her eye. That's enough confirmation for me. The magical ceiling in the Slytherin common room is incredible but I'm not sure I would want to see what lurks in the Black Lake every day. I much prefer the height of Ravenclaw Tower.

Avianna leans in further, glancing around at all of us.

"What do we think of Victor Krum and Hermione Granger?" She asks.

Everyone bursts into whispers, voicing their opinions about how he's too old and they're worried about Hermione or that she should live it up while she can. I'm of the opinion that Hermione is no idiot and she wouldn't be seeing him if he so much as looked at her wrong. Besides, he will be leaving by the end of the year and I highly doubt they will pursue something long distance.

While they all gush about Hermione's dress at the Ball and Ron's face as she walked in on Krum's arm, my mind drifts. I've been more prone to doing that now. Often times its daydreams about what I wished had happened with the Yule Ball instead of what did.

That it had been Fred spinning me around the dance floor and inviting me to the party on the Quidditch pitch instead of him asking Angelina and then falling over himself to try and make my night miserable. My mind also replays the night at the astronomy tower, when I saw a different side to this boy I've known for six years. Where was he when Fred slipped veritaserum into mine and George's drinks?

I pull myself away from my thoughts as the pressure in my chest builds. It's constantly there but some days it's worse than others, especially if I spend too much time thinking about Fred. All of my friends are looking at me expectantly.

"What?" I ask.

They burst into laughter and a smile makes its way onto my face.

"Where were you, Amelia?" Mini teases.

"Wouldn't you like to know?" I tease back.

They don't push me farther than that, not like they used to. I know they're wanting to be kind about the whole Fred thing but I'm honestly getting tired of it. Everything has changed this year. My vision from earlier in the year is still circulating though I hear "Prophet" whispered less and less. We haven't revisited crystal balls in divination again.

Hollyn glances at the watch she wears and practically jumps from her seat.

"I'm going to be late for potions."
