ZERU'S POV

It had been moments after I had walked out of Samara's room. When Mikaela calls me, I answer the phone, knowing I'm going to regret that.

"Why wouldn't you tell me you had another slut over at your house?" She screamed at me in full volume and I rolled my eyes. How loud must she be?

"Mikaela it's not what you-" I said, but she cut me off.

"Yes it is Zeru, you always do this. I had to hear from Jordan, Sam and Diego that you slept with her!" She said as her voice cracks.

As soon as I heard those names, my fists tighten in anger. Those twats, of course it was them.

"God, can you stop overreacting? It's not what you think. She is literally an exchange student, she hasn't even been here for a day." I tried to reassure her and I wondered why I still bothered to do so.

"Are you sure?" She asked, in a pleading tone.

"Yes, of course. Next time I'll make it up to you." I said seductively. She knew what I meant by that.

"Oh." She said, moaning. "Okay."

I hung up, already turned on. But at the same time annoyed at my so-called friends who feed her lies. I immediately FaceTime the group chat, and they all picked up on the first dial. They all laughed, noticing the anger on my face. I rolled my eyes, not bothering to scold them and hung up. I'll get back at them later.

I made my way downstairs in the dining room. I sat at the head of the table, next to my father's spot, which was unsurprisingly empty as always. I rolled my eyes and went back to my phone.

Moments later, I turned my phone off and looked up. I saw Samara walking down stairs. Her body was covered up in clothes, free of the towel that she had been wearing before. I scoffed at the sight of her hideous skirt. I watched her walk downstairs with Fei. They took a photo on Fei's phone, Samara awkwardly smiling, throwing up a peace sign. She looked... weirdly cute. I couldn't help but notice the dimple on the right side of her face.

Samara's POV

I hastily walked towards the spot next to Zeru after our rather strange encounter. I took my seat opposite to Fei. She was going off about this guy at our school named Jaxon who is apparently the biggest jerk. She then began to blabber on giving me tips on how to survive my first day of American high school.

"Oh Joseph." Florence said in a sing-song voice. A tall man with a white head chef's outfit waltzed in. He had dark hair and deep ocean blue eyes.

"Yes, mademoiselle." He said with a strong French accent. He catches me staring and gives me a smile

"I'm so excited with what you have planned today! Samara, meet Joseph our skilled cook, his skills are chef kisses!" She exclaimed, turning to me.

"Well, I wouldn't say I'm as good as she perceives, but I'm flattered." He said, smiling in awe. "Nice to finally meet you Samara."

"Lovely to meet you too Joseph." I said, returning him a smile.

"Tonight in honour of our guest, I have made my famous Carbonara, Garlic bread and homemade sauce. And for dessert I have baked a chocolate lava cake with gold flakes." He exclaimed very proudly to everyone.

Suddenly, waiters and waitresses came in with trays of food, placing food in front of us.

"Joseph did-" Fei started, but was cut off by Joseph.

"How could I forget your vegan carbonara." He said with a smile, placing a plate of vegan carbonara in front of Fei.

Fei's eyes lit up and she clapped in excitement. She pulls her phone out immediately and starts taking photos

"Can't believe you're vegan." Zeru scoffed.

"It will last about a month." He laughed.

"We say 3 weeks." The twin boys commented and giggled to themselves.

"Mommmmm!" Fei whined, turning to her mum for support.

"Young ones mind your business." She warned, shushing them.

"Mommy, where is dad?" Axel, one of the twins asked, in an upset tone.

"He got held up at work, but he promised to be here for breakfast. Now eat up honey."

"Like always." I heard Zeru mutter next to me.

Florence shot him a glare but didn't bother to respond.

Everyone began to eat quietly, talking amongst each other. Florence asked me questions about my flight.

Suddenly, I heard a *click* sound under the table. Zeru dropped his fork. He bent over to pick it up and I felt something warm on top of my thigh. He placed his hand on my bare thigh to support him as he reached under the table to grab the fallen fork.

Once he grabbed the fork, he sat back up, his hand still placed lightly on my thigh. He eventually noticed, his gaze suddenly turning to where his hand laid. He slowly looked up and made eye contact with me. My heart stopped for a moment, I was blushing uncontrollably. I wanted so badly to know what he was thinking but I struggled to read his expression. Why wasn't he removing his hand from my thigh?

"Samara honey." Florence said, snapping me back to reality. At that, Zeru removed his hand from my thigh. "Your uniform just arrived, it should be in your bedroom now."

I tried to remain focused on Florence but Zeru's burning gaze on me was rather overwhelming. I looked at him and he shot me a sly grin before looking away.

"T-Thanks for letting me know." I finally mustered a sentence after a long moment. Florence nodded, not thinking much of it as she turned back to her meal and continued to eat.

I mentally cursed myself for my odd behaviour.

What was wrong with me? Why was I being so unlike myself?
