Rose paced the dining room; the signs that Mannix had been warning her about were becoming more and more frequent.
She stopped abruptly in her steps and bit the tip of her thumbnail, a nervous habit she developed since she got to earth.
"Rose..." Mannix's voice said behind her. Rose's skin crawled; it hadn't been a week, just a couple days, why was he here?
Rose snapped her body, around and saw Mannix leaning against one of the wooden chairs. There were bags under his eyes, and he was taking quick, sharp breaths.
"What happened to you?" Rose asked, gently sitting him down in the chair.
Mannix didn't answer right away; all he did was try to slow his breathing down.
Rose knelt down, so her eyes would lock with his when he finally looked up. "M....Mannix?" she called again; he would've answered her by now.
To her surprise, Mannix gave a spine-chilling growl, and when his eyes finally shot open, they were the color of orange flames.
Before Rose could let out anything more than a gasp, Mannix grabbed her by the throat and snarled, "You should have warner about her destiny."
Rose let out a scream before jolting upwards in her bed. Her face was drenched in sweat and tears, and she quickly wiped the droplets away with the back of her hand.
Meanwhile, Eleanor was tossing and turning, the image of Trace's eyes carved into her mind. Was it the stress of the move causing her to see and hear all these crazy things?
If it was it still didn't explain her mother's hesitance and sudden worry.
Eleanor sighed knowing she wouldn't be able to sleep; her cluttered mind wouldn't her to.
She stepped onto the wooden floor from her bed, and crept downstairs to the kitchen.
Minutes later, Eleanor was leaning against the counter tipping the brim of the water glass against her lips.
Cold air hit the back of her neck, sending chills up and down her spine.
Eleanor stiffened, not moving a muscle, as the cold air continued to hit her neck like breath.
Slowly, Eleanor placed the glass down onto the counter top, and spun around. None of the windows were open, so it couldn't have been the wind outside.
"Eleanor...." a hushed voice called out. Tensing the muscles in her body, Eleanor looked over her shoulder, and saw what looked like the silhouette of a person sitting on the sofa.
Her breath caught in her throat as she stood frozen at the sight. However, Eleanor felt her legs start moving towards the figure, causing them to draw closer.
When she was only feet away from the stranger, the words she could only stutter out was, "Who a...are you?"
The stranger responded by standing from the sofa, and turning his head, revealing his amber, flame-like eyes.
Eleanor wanted to scream, to yell for help, but found her herself unable to do so. The only thing she could do was to start backing away from the stranger.
"Eleanor, what are you doing?" her mother's voice sounded behind her. Eleanor spun around, and saw her mother staring at her concerned.
Eleanor looked over her shoulder to where the stranger was originally standing; how could her mother not see the figure?
However, the stranger was no longer there when she turned her head. "What? Mom , I swear there was a guy standing right there."
"A man? What did he look like?" Rose questioned.
"Wait, you believe me?" Eleanor asked; that's when Rose realized her mistake and she turned her gaze toward her feet.
Minutes passed before Rose lifted her gaze towards Eleanor who's eyes pleaded the question, "What's going on?"
Rose knew it was time to tell Eleanor the truth.
A/N: Theories on the shadow figures? Sorry for the wait, but I hope was worth it, and thank you for being patient with me. As always, feedback is welcomed!
