"Um... okay. Back up for me, would you? The world is ending?"

"How much more information do you need?" Asked Lulu incredulously. "The world is about to split in half and end."

"Yeah, sure. Even if I did believe you, why would it be ending? And how does it concern me?"

"God, you're dense."

"It's obvious!" Added Lisa.

"Earthquakes!" They said in unison.

It was totally a scene that belonged in a movie or something, the way they said it so perfectly. It was like they rehearsed it. Maybe they did! Oh great. My mind was wandering off again.

"You mean the ones in Macapa?" I rolled my eyes. "I don't deny they're weird, but the world won't end. They're just a few earthquakes."

"Just a few?" Said Lisa, shocked. "Just a few? They're heading along the equator faster than-than-than Flash! They're digging into the earth's core, getting closer by the second!"

"Yeah!" Lulu said timidly. She had always been a bit less outgoing than Lisa, a bit more shy. "They are probably a quarter of the way around the world by now!"

I gave them skeptical looks. I didn't doubt something was up with the earthquakes, but they would end the world? The two of them looked very serious, though. And Lisa was hardly ever serious.

They narrowed their eyes at me in unison. Since they were identical twins, it was hard to tell them apart, but now it was impossible. They both had their arms crossed, they both glared at me, and were looking like they were trying to suppress something important and somewhat exciting (yes, I was pretty good at reading people).

"Fine, what do you want?" I sighed.

The two exchanged smiles (I hate it when they do that), and I regretted it immediately.

                                                                       ~~~~~~~
In a nutshell, what they had said was that they realized the earthquakes would crack the world in half, and it was up to us to save it. They had even given the three of us a name: The Wings of the Universe. I mean, how ridiculous was that? I understood why they chose it, though. We would help the Earth soar and be free from earthquakes. Thinking about it, I realized I still didn't understand.
I thought about all this on the car ride back, giving me no time to think about or do anything else. For some reason, I was really mad at them, not giving me a choice. They didn't even give me a say in the name! They said that we were to figure out who - or what - is behind the earthquakes, and that we were to stop them. We also had to fix the world, however that was supposed to happen.
Maybe the reason I was more okay with it than I normally would have been was those weird feelings I was getting, or maybe it was the way they had looked at me pleadingly. Usually, we just annoyed and hated each other, but today, we had joined forces. We had to watch each other's backs, and protect each other from whatever strange and mysterious forces were heading our way. This would always be the day my life changed.
There were still a few details to smooth out, though, such as where our headquarters would be, if anyone else would join us, and oh yeah, how to stop someone with the power to destroy worlds!
We had planned to call each other that night, and hopefully get a better sense of what to do. When I started thinking, I realized that they had probably already decided on some things without me. And from what I'd learned, my instincts were always right.
I was right. I wanted to call them the second I got home, even though it was almost nine. We had been talking for so many hours at their house, coming up with scenarios and ideas, that I'd almost slept over.
