~Ch. 44~
(Em's POV)
I walked at home one day to hear (y/n)'s loud angry screaming. Oh boy. I stuck my head in the living room and saw her on the phone, face redder than with tears streaming out of her eyes.
"I DON'T EVER WANT TO FUCKING SEE YOU AGAIN MOM!" she said slamming her phone on the ground. She crouched on the ground hugging her knees, crying into her knees. It was an instinct for me to come over and hug her close. Without any hesitation, she accepts the embrace, crying into my shoulder. I kiss her head, stroking her hair softly, rubbing her back in small circles with my hand.
"What's wrong, baby?" I said softly.
(y/n) said in between sniffles, "My parents...well parent now..."
"What do you mean?"
"Dad sat in the chair 2 days ago...mom called me to tell me about it."
"So why the fuck are you angry at her about it?"
"Before Dad sat in the chair...she practically divorced with him..."
"Ummm but she has to go to the divorce lawyer-"
"How the fuck could she have divorce lawyer come to prison with her?"
"True."
"So she called Dad 2 days before his execution, saying she wanted to divorce...and she wants to be with one of her ex boyfriends...that she cheated on my dad with at least 4 fucking times when he was in jail..."
My eyes went wide in shock, "So your mom is now engaged with-"
"Yeah...she fucking told me that right after she told me dad fucking died! She told my dad at the church 'forever and always' and how she would hang herself if she was unfaithful. Fuck that shit! Dad fucking died knowing the fact that my bitchy ass mom broke the most valuable fucking promise ever!" she screamed, punching the wall behind her over and over again as she kept crying.
I grabbed her closely, cuddling with her and whispering, "Shhh shhh" repeatedly. (y/n) stopped punching the walls, but leaned her head against it, sobbing. I leaned her head against my shoulder so she could cry on it. I never seen this much pain in (y/n). She was good at hiding it but I thought I took the mask off and made her smile again. But no...someone had to put another frown on her face.
(y/n) sobbed, "Dad may have been a jack ass doing a lot of illegal shit...but he was the best fucking Dad ever to me...Mom was never fucking there for me because she went to work...but Dad quit his job after Emily was born to watch the two of us at home while Mom worked...he was there for me when I needed it. In fact he sued the 8th grade sex ed teacher for trying to rape me...yes he got into all drugs you could fucking name and he did steal a lot of shit...but still he fucking cared for me and Emily. 2 guys broke in when I was 18, Dad took the bullet for me...Emily came home crying after finding out her boyfriend was cheating on her with her best friend, Dad beat his ass up...A teacher at school told me no one loved me when I was in 6th grade, Dad hugged me when I came home crying saying he was fucking lying because 'Daddy loves you, sweetie...'" (y/n) wiped her tears, "I loved my Dad. I didn't give a fuck that his best friend was a drug dealer...I didn't give a fuck if he was wanted for shoplifting! None of that meant shit to me! He was still a fucking dad!"
I held her close to me, the pain of watching her cry twisting inside me, stretching my heart further. I lifted her chin wiping the tears leaking down her eyes then kissing her nose, whispering, "Your dad was wrong."
She glared at me, hissing, "What the fuck does that mean?"
"I didn't mean it that way, baby," I said holding her hand down as she was about to punch me, "remember your dad asked me to talk to him privately when I first met him?"
She nodded.
I continued, "Well thing is, he wanted me to promise you to give you the best present and future because he gave you a horrible past. I think he's wrong. He definately wasn't wrong about giving you a better future but he was down right wrong when he said he gave you a horrible past. I mean look at you, (y/n), you just fucking said you didn't give a shit if he had drugs and shit and you still love him. I mean it sounds like to me he was the best fucking dad to you ever."
"Because he was..."
I kissed her cheek, "So, guess what?"
"What?"
"Your dad's happy as hell. I mean, yes his wife just admitted crappy shit to him, but he just heard you say the words every dad wants to hear."
"And what were the words?"
"'You were the best fucking dad ever.'"
(y/n) looked at me for a moment but smiled a little, "I guess..."
"No don't say I guess."
"But I don't know-"
"A father would feel most proud knowing he could satisfy his children even though he thought he did a horrible job. He did the best job ever to you, and that's what put a smile on his face."
"You're right...he did the best job as a dad ever...I could never let him believe he did a horrible job."
"But you fixed that."
(y/n)'s mouth gaped open but now she was completely oblivious of what her mom told her over the phone, "I can't believe Dad would ever think he was a terrible father..." she frowned again, "if only I could fucking tell him before he-"
"He heard you." I said holding my girlfriend's hand.
She looked at me, "What do you mean?"
"He heard you...he may not have been here physically to hear the words. But he heard it...I know he did...and he couldn't be more happier hearing you say those words..."
(y/n) smiled a little, hugging me close to her, "You're the best shoulder to lean on, you know that Marshall?"
I smiled, "Because no girl as special as you should have a frown on her face."
