No one likes the apocalypse, let alone stand living in it. Sacrifices always had to be made, left and right, which is why you are where you are.
Laying down on a shitty mattress, with the only source of light being shown through the even shittier curtains.
"Wake up, pendejo," you recognized the voice almost immediately, cringing and letting out a dramatic sigh. "The hell are you still doing asleep?"
"Shut the fuck up, Manny," you groaned just as loud as the sigh, sitting up and ruffling your hair. "The hell are you doing waking me up? It's my day off, pendejo."
"Ouch," he says with a laugh, knowing that you don't mean it. "Isaac wants us to go on a run. I don't think your little girlfriend will appreciate us running with Mel, however."
"She'll be fine. We'll be fine. As long as they keep to themselves the world will return to it's once lost peace."
"Ah yes, because the apocalypse started due to their stupidity."
You groaned once again, yet this time lighter, and shooed Manny out of your room. You started to get dressed and picked up your bag once you were finished; adding your journal and your oh-so famous pun book that you loved reading off to and annoying others with.
"Can't believe he's making me work on my day off..." you whisper to yourself, putting your backpack on. "Manny, you can come in now."
"Finally, I was sure I'd die if I had to wait another minute."
"You're so dramatic, Manny. Get going, I'll be right behind you."
"Whatever you say, ma'am." he laughs once again, walking through the door across from your bed.
After chatting with him for a minute, you met up with Abby in the cafeteria. She looked out of it, and you were confused as to what happened. However, you trusted her and went on with your conversation with Manny.
"No way in hell you did that." Manny laughs, it has come to your attention that the man laughed a lot. At least someone was having fun.
"Hell yeah I did! Fried those bitches like they were steak," you joined in on his laughter, looking back at your girlfriend. "Isn't that right, babe?"
"Oh, yeah. It was pretty cool." She says lightly. She was never one to laugh much due to her serious behavior, but this time it was like she was guilty. She wasn't looking you in the eye, and she kept scarfing down her burrito like it was the last thing she'd ever eat.
"Now, Abby, you won't like this; but Mel's coming with us." Manny said lightheartedly, and Abby went wide-eyed, almost looking scared.
"Oh, yeah, that's fine." She said, continuing to eat her burrito.
"She's acting so off today," Manny whispered to you and you nodded back to him, "I wonder what's wrong."
You shook your head, not knowing what's going on with her. You worried, but decided not to bug her on the matter.
After the long and stressful run, you successfully made it back to your bed, reading a book to make time pass before you finally fell asleep.
