Who thought some weird lab rats would be saving the world?
Not this ragtag squad.
"Wake up." A guard knocked their baton on the cell door.
Tom sat up, rolling his shoulders. He's glad they have top notch quality utilities in this place, it's just bland.
He rolled out of bed, opening the iron filled door and falling in line with the others.
"Good morning, Tom!" Cherry swerved around, walking backwards. She shone a bright smile on him.
"Good morning, Cherry. Good morning, Patches!" He tilted to the side a bit, looking at the girl in front of Cherry.
"Good morning." Patches waved her right hand at him.
The guard leading them turned right towards the cafeteria. The line remained straight with minimal chatter. The guard slowed to a stop, pulling his card out of his pocket. He swiped it on the door, moving to the side to let them in.
The teens murmured thank you's to the guard, who simply nodded. Despite being held captive, their conditions were quite...gentle.
None of their appliances ever broke, they'd do 3-6 hours of training, three hours total to eat, free time for two hours, five hours of class time. There wasn't a big reason to escape.
Being taken from their families? What family? They're all orphans. Discipline was kept to a minimum so they could sharpen their skills and minds without fear.
It was whatever.
"Please sit down at a table after grabbing your food. A guest will be speaking to you today." The guard nodded.
"Thank you, John!" Cherry waved at the guard. He simply nodded, closing the door as he left.
Small talk was made among them.
"Hey Cherry. Good mornin', Tom!" Alistair's arm hung loosely around Tom's shoulder.
"I threw you around pretty roughly yesterday, you good?" The shorter boy leaned against him, holding his tray with one hand.
He guided him away from the main table, to which Tom glanced back to his friends in dismay.
Patches shrugged with a sinister grin on her face. Cherry laughed nervously, waving at them. Lucas was spaced out on his food. Poor Lucas.
"Is there something to discuss?" The two sat down, setting their trays on the table.
"Oh nothing, just wanted to sit with you." Alistair smiled at Tom, who was stuffing his face with food out of paranoia.
-
"What do you think they're talking about?" Patches mumbled, waving her fork around.
"I dunno." Cherry leaned on her hand, staring at them for a good minute.
She watched Tom lean towards Alistair, who whispered something. He laughed, covering his mouth. Alistair leaned back, looking over at them.
He waved at them. Patches waved back without looking up from her food. Cherry waved back, an unnerving feeling bothering her.
"They're scary." Lucas mumbled, picking at his food.
"Aw, it's okay, Lucas. You'll grow taller than them someday." Cherry giggled, patting Lucas' head.
