It may be a little half-assed but this is the best you're getting. I have way too many ideas for these two and I can never finish the ideas I'm working on cause I've got like 20 different fics. Anyways-

Cheese man makes me uncomfortable and I love the idea of him wanting to explode when he sees Hannibal and Will together. Enjoy my shitty writing.

At first, Will just thought Hannibal was nice. And a bit old-fashioned.

When they first met, instead of shaking his hand as he expected, Hannibal kissed his knuckles. The action had sent Will into a whirlwind of confusion and left him overthinking it for hours upon hours. When they went to inspect different pipe threading companies, Hannibal was at his car door before he even unbuckled and was opening it for him. Will gave his awkward mutters of appreciation at the gesture. What irked him the most was the fact that Hannibal seemed to hold out his arm as if he was going to lead him into the building. He brushed it off and walked ahead of him, the doctor not appearing bothered in the slightest at the rejection.

Hannibal would pull out chairs for him, open and close car doors, and continue his attempts to offer his arm. Will believed it was because the man was old, and foreign, with proper etiquette drilled into him from a young age. What didn't help Will's argument was that he didn't do it with any other guy.

The doctor would often greet Alana with a kiss on the back of her hand and she'd often take his arm and naturally thank him when he pulled back chairs or opened doors. He'd even done it with Freddie Lounds, though Will could tell he despised doing it. The way he acted wasn't strange to anyone other than him.

Other than Will, he hadn't attempted it with a single man. Jack received firm handshakes, not even a movement to lead or to pull out a chair. Chilton rarely received a handshake but always got strong nods and once again, no attempts to lead. Will had no clue why he of all people received such treatment. Jack didn't even seem to mention the distinct difference and Alana brushed it off as the man being kind. Beverly tried to tell him it was because the doctor liked him but he'd denounced that idea.

Turns out, Bev was right.

During one therapy session, Will pointed out the actions, indirectly asking him what was up with the other's behavior. At first, Hannibal had insisted that if it made him uncomfortable, he would stop immediately. Once reassured that it was fine, he explained that he was indeed interested in the special agent. Will had been told that the doctor wanted to court him if the other accepted such a proposal.

After going home and staying up all night poring over research about what courting even was, Will approved. There was no denying he found the doctor attractive. His feelings about Alana died fast when the two men met and he was willing to avow his interest in the person that made a legitimate attempt to be with him. From what he could tell, courting only had one ending: marriage. If everything went smoothly over the time they courted, Will honestly wasn't opposed to the idea of marrying Hannibal. So they officially started courting each other.

There wasn't much of a dramatic shift. Will started going over to the man's house more often for dinners, where he still received the same treatment. The main difference was the gifts he got. Before he agreed, he insisted that Hannibal wouldn't spend too much money on him. He didn't want to be showered in material things and feel like some kind of trophy wife.

Hannibal obliged. The gifts he got were always simple, but thoughtful. Most recently it was a pair of gloves because the doctor had noticed his lack of them one night before he left. Will accepted them graciously, determined to find something for the doctor later, and wore them whenever he remembered to grab them.

The latest step they'd made was taking their newfound relationship into the public. For the first public outing, Hannibal had asked Will to join him at the opera. The empath despised the idea of spending time in a lavish building with a bunch of rich people he didn't know but had agreed out of a need to please and impress the doctor.
