Hayden Romero was dead. Derek received the news out of the blue. Her new alpha got a hold of him right away, wasting no time in letting him know about the death. It was the bare minimum, but it was still more than he expected. After surviving the kidney transplant that made her a chimera as a young teen, the dread doctors' experiments, the worst of Theo Raeken, and Monroe's hunters, Hayden was killed at nineteen which was a surprise, she didn't have the same target on her back. Stiles felt this was a blatant attack against them--- everyone needed to work together to figure it out. Stiles seemed to be paranoid over something so trivial, without any real reason to take it upon himself. The need for him to know what was going on around him caused him to shift more than he normally did; he thought that he might just bounce right out of his skin. They all had no choice but to watch Liam fall apart all over again. Both times it had been her fault. His heart still broke over the death of his first love, even after she had walked away from him. Stiles doubted that he was ever really over the first heartache. She had left after he put everything on the line, risked everything with Scott. Anything for her. Everyone knew that he worried about her but they never really talked after she abandoned him. They didn't know if he would recover. This was nothing like when she had left or even when she had almost died from the Dread Doctors' experiments when they had Scott to save her. She was gone, and never coming back, and that felt like a big deal. There was nothing that they could think of that would be of any help; Liam was just out of it. Derek did his best, relying on his basic instincts to do what was best, but that didn't do them any favors. It was no secret that Derek still struggled when it came to being helpful and taking care of his pack members. Despite trying his hardest to make sure that everyone was taken care of, nothing he did seemed to do much to help brighten his mood. Liam was difficult to be around, pushing everyone but Theo away, which was nothing like the golden retriever beta that he had grown into and everyone had grown to love. Almost the entire pack rallied around him, trying to get him to smile, or at least let him know that he wasn't in this all alone, but it did nothing.

Theo understood why his boyfriend was broken-hearted, even if it seemed to make him somewhat jealous at times. He didn't have the best track record with Hayden, but he wasn't completely unaffected by the tragedy. It was only because of how bad Liam was and his constant close proximity with his mate. Liam was the most important thing to Theo, no one even came close, and seeing him like this made Stiles worry. Given the chance to do something about the person he believed was at fault, Theo wouldn't hesitate. If he thought it was what was best for Liam...Theo was a no-nonsense kind of person, if he saw that something was dragging down or threatening the only person he had ever loved, he would go out of his way to make sure that they never caused anyone any more problems. Stiles made a mental note to make sure he kept an eye on Theo until things had calmed down some because while they now got along Stiles didn't trust him very much and if something bad happened because he couldn't keep his emotions in check Stiles would kill Theo himself. They didn't need to be responsible if Theo did anything off the wall but they knew that once the chimera made his mind up about something there was nothing stopping him, Theo would not hesitate to move heaven and hell for Liam if the need ever arose.
