Everyone I talk to

Is just another not you,

Makes me wonder how we're so far apart.

-Replace Your Heart (The Wanted)

There was a knock on the door, and I jumped in surprise. I slipped him in the drawer, closed it, and frantically grabbed a jacket.

"It's Finn!"

"Wait a minute!" I frantically called as I slipped it on. Then, I went over to the door and opened it, making him nearly fall on me since he was leaning on the door. I allowed myself to smile slightly at him, and he decided to as well, scratching the back of his head.

Then, he composed himself and handed me a sandwich. "Jack's back. He bought this for you. He's in his own room at this moment though; I wouldn't recommend going to find him."

Again. He did it again.

"No, of course not," I agreed quietly. "Thanks. And um, if you see him, thank him for me, won't you?"

He nodded, before closing the door again.

Shunned, I stared at the close door, before shrugging off my jacket. Great. This wasn't my jacket, and I had just ruined it. I looked at the tag: Jack Harries.

Fuck it.

I opened my door, and then went to find the bathroom. Closing the door behind me, I turned on the tap and ran the sleeve under the water. As I finished scrubbing it clean, the door nearly opened, but I slammed my back against it. "Sorry about that! I forgot to lock the door!"

A different voice replied, "That's all right!"

Different... The accent was American. And it was a girl.

Wringing the jacket dry, I walked out of the bathroom, and saw the girl I had heard. "Who are you?" Came out of our mouths unanimously. I looked down in embarrassment, and she seemed amused. "Sorry, that was rude. I'm Chanel, I'm just..." I trailed off, not knowing how to explain this. "I'm renting the spare room for a month." That seemed legit.

She nodded in understanding. She was beautiful, with golden brown long wavy hair and blue eyes. "I'm Kara. Jack's friend. Well, for now, that is," she giggled.

She was such a nice girl. And gorgeous as well. "I hope you don't seduce Jack or something, because he's certainly mine."

I laughed nervously. "No! No! Be assured I will not do anything like that!"

She laughed, placing an arm on my shoulder. "Whoa there! I was only joking! You're too young for him anyways."

I nodded, smiling forcibly, hoping it didn't look like a sneer. "No, I suppose I am," I agreed. "I'll...see you around, maybe?"

"Yeah, I guess so," she answered, but I'd already retreated back to my room.

Distinctly, I heard her say, "She's such a cute girl!"

Then, a masculine voice I recognised as Jack's answered, "Yeah, I know."

"Is she really young?"

"No, 17, I suppose."

"What? Really? She looks so young!"

And then there was nothing anymore. I unwrapped my sandwich, and stared at it. Ham, cheese and tomato. It looked appealing, nice, and had all my favourite ingredients for a sandwich. But I was afraid that if I ate it, then it would be like accepting the fact that I liked Jack, and now, I was sure he didn't like me.
