Alyssa POV
"Lyssa hunny, we will miss you so much," my dad held me close to her. So close that I could hear his heart beating.
"Dad it hurts..." he immediately shoved me away from him and wiped the tears away. He looked sad for a while so I hugged my dad one more time. When I backed away from him and he smiled at me. I have always been daddies little girl and it always hurt so much seeing my dad upset.
I said goodbye to my old life by saying goodbye to my dad and his girlfriend. There was absolutely nothing here left for me so in a way I was happy to start my life elsewhere. It wasn't only goodbye with people but also culture. Today I was going to leave Norway and live with my mom in Florida.
I went through the security very fast because there were barely any people at the airport today. Which I didn't mind because I didn't like a lot of people around me. I have pretty bad social anxiety.
"Excuse me," I turned around and saw a short blonde girl. She was blushing.
"Huh?" What kind of reply was that? I had been so much alone that I barely knew how to speak.
"Is that seat available?" She pointed towards the seat that was next to me and I nodded my head. She smiled at me before she sat down next to me. I looked over at her phone as she swapped songs on Spotify. Ariana Grande, honestly not surprised.
"Do you like Ariana Grande?" She asked. Now it was my turn to blush.
"Oh yeah.. I saw her once," she smiled and we had some back and forth conversations about her and other celebrities.
"So where are you going?" She asked.
"Florida," I replied.
"No way, me too!" This day just kept on getting more interested.
"What's your name?" I asked. This was probably the first time I tried to engage in a conversation.
"My name is Carly, what about you?"
"Alyssa but you can call me Lyss," I felt like this was the beginning of a wonderful friendship and I was not all wrong. After the plane landed in Florida we met up at the bag drop and we exchanged phone numbers. We thought it would be nice to have a Norwegian friend in a completely different continent.
Carly and I walked towards the exit and for a moment I froze. I saw my mom holding a little boy and next to her was a man I didn't know.
I saw Carly run towards the man and hugged him. I just stood there with my mouth open. I was shocked. I wasn't aware that my mom had a boyfriend and I wasn't aware that I had a little brother until now. I walked quietly over to them and I was met with happy faces.
"Ah like I've missed you," my mom gave the child to the man and she embraced me.
"Hi mom," I was so shy and I didn't know what to say or feel.
"Oh Lyssa, you're so beautiful," I blushed at her comment. "And oh you have grown so much," no shit mom. Last time you saw me I was seven and.. chubby.
Mom shoved herself from me but still held my hand. She started walking over to the others and she stopped and smiled at all of us.
"Alyssa. This is my husband Harold. His daughter Carly and your little brother Nolan," my heart was bleeding. My mom had a completely different family and the worst part of it was that I had no idea what part I played in the family. The thing I was most shocked of was the fact that me and Carly were kind of like sisters now. We had been talking during the whole flight thinking we were parting ways but all of a sudden she's my sister.
"Alyssa I've looked forward to meet you," Harold stepped closer and hugged me. I didn't return the hug but it seemed like he didn't mind that I didn't. After all this was all very new to me and I had yet to process all of this.
I smiled back at him and even more at the little guy he was holding. If I had to guess i would say he was around two or maybe even younger. When even was the ceremony and why wasn't I invited?
On our way back to my new home, Harold and my mom were speaking a lot to each other and talking a little to me and Carly. They showed us different places in the city. Me and Carly both were impressed by how big the mall was. We looked at each other with excitement in our eyes.
"Dadddddd can me and Lyss go to the mall tomorrow?" He said that it was fine and that he was working tomorrow. Carly whined out of excitement and went on about how much she had missed being here. I couldn't agree because this was my first time here.
The day passed really quickly and before I knew it I woke up the next morning. From where I was laying I could hear several footsteps under me and running water.
I planted my feet down at the carpet and the carpet felt really good under my feet. I wasn't really used to this whole carpet thing that we got going on in this house because back in Norway our whole house was pretty much just planks.
Harold dropped me and Carly off at the mall and we were both very excited. We wanted to buy some new things for school. It was the best kind of feeling- like satisfying?
After a while of shopping Carly got tired and she decided to sit down at the bench while I went into the store to buy us both something to drink and snack on.
I went over to where the snacks were. I had no idea what most of these brands were. I tried to look for some snacks that we had in Norway. I found pringles and lays. They were both very good options, but a friend from Norway had once told me that eating Pringles increases the chance of getting cancer. Which scared me to death.
"These are pretty good," a guy on the other side of the aisle held up a bag of cheetos. I had heard about it but never tried it.
"I'm good," I replied.
"Suit yourself kitten," I automatically widened my eyes.
"What excuse you?" He started laughing and he started walking towards me.
"I think you heard exactly what I said.. KITTEN," he grabbed the bag of salty lays that I had in my hands and then he threw a bag of crunchy Cheetos right in my face.
"Thank me later,"
What a jerk.
