And Now, Broken Bones

At the exact moment she said that, the final pairing of the metahumans made it to solid ground, but not exactly the softest of places—as in, a rock-solid concrete roof.

Butch cried out when his back made contact with the hard gritty surface, and for a moment, struggled to get his breath back. Then a shadow passed over his body, and he looked up—just in time to see Buttercup, before she used him as her landing pad.

And he heard a crack.

"Jesus Christ..." Buttercup moaned, having not heard what he heard. "What the hell did that old geezer do?"

"Buttercup..." Butch wheezed, trying hard not to breathe in too deeply—at least, not with her on him. "Buttercup, get off..."

His body hurt enough already, and with Buttercup's weight on him, he didn't want to end up breaking his ribs even more if released the tension in his chest, which was pretty much the only thing keeping Buttercup's full burden off.

"What's wrong with you?" Buttercup demanded.

"Get... off me..!"

"Don't be such a baby." But either way, she obliged him.

"I think you broke my ribs..."

"Come on, I didn't hit you that hard."

"I'm serious... I think you must've broken something."

"You've gotten crash landings much harder than that, so just calm down."

Maybe... he thought begrudgingly, albeit entirely unconvinced. But when he tried to move, a sudden fierce pain flared in his chest, and he fell back onto his back.

Buttercup frowned at his expression, contorted with pain. She nudged him gently in the side, and he winced, crying softly in protest.

"Oh, nice! Kick me, and it'll make everything better!"

"Shut up." She knelt down and poked his ribs, and this time, he actually tried to hit her.

"I said stop!"

"Alright, fine." Buttercup frowned, still sitting on her haunches, and stared down at her counterpart, her chin in her hand. "Hold on, I'm just going to look into your body and check out your bones."

In all honesty, Butch could care less about what she did, so long as she didn't touch him even more.

Buttercup stared hard at his chest, focusing on activating her X-ray vision to look for any fractures.

Nothing.

Absolutely nothing.

"I... I can't see anything," she stammered.

"What're you talking about?" Butch snapped. "What do you mean, you can't see anything?"

"I mean, I can't see through you at all. Hold on, Butch—I'm going to get you to the professors." Slipping her arms under him, she tried to stand and lift him, but the second she managed to get him a few inches upwards, she realized something.

Butch seemed to have grown heavier!

Because of the sudden weight, Buttercup dropped him, and Butch cried out again.

"Geez, Butch!" Buttercup complained. "What'd you do? Gain weight?"

"ME?!" Butch exploded. "I didn't do shit! You just picked me up and then dropped me!"

She sighed irritably and pushed at him a little, which brought out a second exclamation. "Butch, can't you move at all? I mean, at best, you probably have broken ribs. You can still walk around even with them."

Butch only became even more impatient. "You think I'd know what to do about broken ribs?! What exactly do you expect me to do?!"

Buttercup glared at him, but didn't say anything else as she focused more on the problem at hand—such as what to do. Butch was being a bitch and couldn't—or wouldn't—move, while she wasn't strong enough to do anything about him.

What did that bastard do to us? We stopped flying, I can't use my X-ray vision, I can't use my super strength... So what else have I got to use?

All of a sudden, she remembered. "I've got a cellphone!"

"You stupid—!" Butch was furious. "Why didn't you think of that before?!"

"Be quiet, cripple," she spat as she reached into her skirt pocket. "At least I thought of it at all!" Then she withdrew a cracked touch screen cell, encased in green plastic.

"Please, still work..." Pleading hopefully, she hit the power button, and to her relief, the screen miraculously lit up with a lock screen of the Utonium sisters. Although it flickered a great deal, she could still use the screen, even if she had some trouble. After keying in her password, her first dial was to Professor Utonium.

He answered on the first ring. "Buttercup?"

"Hey, Professor. Um... we need your help. Can you... I don't know, track our location?"

"What do you mean? Why?"

Buttercup glanced at Butch, who was glowering at her. "We've got a medical emergency. I think Butch broke some ribs, and I don't even know about the others."

"What?" Professor Utonium sounded baffled. "Buttercup, can you say that again?"

"I know, it's crazy. But Blossom released her bow bomb, and all of a sudden, we fell from the sky. Then Butch is complaining about broken ribs, and... I can't carry him. He's too heavy for me."

"Okay, fine. Stay on the line—I'm having Dr. Brisbaine and Dr. Weasel track your location."

Buttercup released a heave of relief and sat down beside Butch, setting the phone down next to her as they waited. After a brief silence, she asked Butch, "How you feelin'?"

"Oh, I don't know. I feel like I hit concrete, and then got used as a landing pad, so yeah—I've had rougher days, but that doesn't mean I'm not all banged up."

"Alright, just trying to help."

"Didn't say I didn't want it. At least you being a bitch takes my mind off my ribs—it's shitty that it hurts so much, when I ain't even moving."

Buttercup looked at him, then grabbed him by the ear and pulled on it.

"Ow!! What the hell are you doing now?!"

"Being a bitch," was her snarky response.

Okay, I'm on a roll! (^ω^) Hopefully, this can keep up. Not only has Bubbles hurt her ankle, but then we have Butch with broken ribs. What on earth happened? How will they fix this? Can they even?

And what of Megaville? Without the Powerpuff Girls and the Rowdyruff Boys, what're they going to do if they get attacked?
