Author's Note: Thanks for the comments on the last one! The anger you had about Exile made me realize you're probably going to hate me by the end of this story. 😬
7. Paddle
Mitch entered the house two days later to find Avi and Jax speaking in hushed voices.
Mitch took a seat next to Kevin. He wasn't sure what the purpose of this meeting was. It couldn't be a call-out. It was only 5pm.
Brad stood in front of the brothers and waited for them to quiet down. Seeing the difference between how he spoke in front of the brothers versus the pledges made Mitch want to vomit. He was actually a very nice guy.
Seemingly.
"Alright. Wanted to touch base with you before tonight's call-out. Especially for the new guys." He looked at Mitch and Kevin, pointedly. "Tonight, we announce that they have to do whatever we say, whenever we say. I'll tell them tonight that they're the slaves of ZBK."
"Can you go over the ground rules, dude?" Jax asked, pointedly. Avi shot him a look that Mitch could only assume was a look of thanks. He must have told him about their discussion from a few days earlier.
"Yeah, yeah, yeah..." Brad said, waving him off. "If you see a brother making a pledge do something that might be causing harm, tell me right away. Little things are fine. But nothing that could cause them damage, you know?"
"That was very vague," Avi urged.
Brad rolled his eyes. "Don't beat them to oblivion. You can't humiliate them in public. They can't give you all of their money. You know, the obvious."
Zach nodded, looking serious. "If you see something, say something."
Mitch could have punched him in the face.
"Also, if they are carrying out a task for another brother, you have to wait until it's finished before you make a demand," Brad added. "Any further questions, feel free to ask."
The group stood and left, and Mitch looked at Kevin, who was still seated with him.
Mitch avoided all of them for the first few days, but Kevin tracked him down.
"You know you could be helping Scott right now, right?" Kevin looked anxious.
"What do you mean?"
"You know your twin is the most hated pledge. Or... most liked. I can't tell, these days."
"Okay."
"There's a line of brothers making demands. He hasn't even slept in two days."
"Doesn't that count as causing harm?" Mitch asked, feeling his blood boiling.
"I was thinking... maybe you could demand that he go to his dorm for a few hours or something?"
It was actually a good idea.
"Why didn't you do it?"
"I have Matt carrying out an errand for me to keep him busy and away from the rest of them. Apparently, you can't hog all of them. One pledge at a time."
Mitch nodded, and set off to find Scott.
Scott nearly crashed into him as he left his classroom, where Mitch was waiting.
"Sorry, Brother Mitch Grassi," he mumbled, putting a book into his bag as he continued to scurry away.
"Wait, wait, wait," Mitch called, hurrying to catch up.
Scott stopped and looked into his eyes with a blank expression.
"Do you have an assignment right now?"
