She was in the middle of taking off her stubborn plaster, cutting it with all her force.

"Mommy, does it hurt?" Ellie asked with wide eyes, sitting right beside her, clutching on a pencil too big for her chubby little hand.

"No, it's just a bunch of cardboard, darling"

Trn Trn Buz-

"Hello?"

"Ms. Moony?"

"Yes that's me" her heart skipped a beat, let it be a job please, she prayed.

"Hello Ms. Moony, this is Angelica from Golden Enterprises, we have received your application for the personal assistant job, are you still interested?"

"Yes" her heart was filling with hope, hope for a great future for her Elaine.

"Are you willing to do an interview today at 5 pm?"

"Today?" she asked and looked at Ellie, then at the clock, it was 12 o'clock.

"Yes," she finally replied.

"And are you willing to start right tomorrow, if employed?"

Marlyn's mind raced. They were so tight on time, no wonder Marlyn was given a possibility, she wouldn't be so lucky next time to get such a great opportunity. " Yes," she answered.

"Very well, your interview is set at 5 o'clock today, dress nice, and good luck Ms. Moony," the clerk replied.

"Thank you so much, have a nice day," she greeted. Marlyn's heart was racing. Then she jumped up from the couch, pulled Ellie in her arms, one still half plastered, and twirled around happily.

"Mom got an interview baby, mom got an interview!" She danced.

"Wat's an intervu, mommy?"

Marlyn walked outside of the building smiling ear to ear. She had nailed the interview and got the job. She could not believe it had been so easy, no triple interviews, no excessive intimidation. Mrs. Adams, the lady who had interviewed her, had not even asked her why she took five whole years to complete a three years degree, or maybe she had met too many losers in her experience to even bother questioning her. No matter what, Marlyn got extreamly lucky. She was demanded to start her week-long training right the next day, they were so tight with the time which was probably the reason they had not found many candidates so soon.

To Marlyn's delight they even had a daycare for all their workers' children, she couldn't be happier!

She wanted to jump and scream in joy, not being able to resist she twirled around, dreams becoming reality flashing in her mind.

By the time she was going to cross the road she had barely calmed down the excitement, otherwise with her mind in dreamland, she might have jumped right between the racing cars without a thought.

"Can I hold your bag?" She asked the elder lady waiting with her for the lights to turn green.

She had dark hair splashed with locks turning gray and was barely clutching her grocery bag that probably weighed a lot.

The lady looked at her, "What, darling?" she asked.

"Can I help you with your bag, please?" she asked again, louder this time.

"Oh, thank you so much, darling!"

Marlyn took hold of the bag, she was reminded of her grandmother, which swelled her eyes of tears and heart with anger and guilt. She blinked a couple of times to clear her vision and followed the lady who started on to telling her about her life. Sometimes Marlyn nodded, saying something, but most of the conversation she could not understand because of the granny's thick accent.

The lady stopped at the bus stop, "Oh thank you so much, you young people are so full of energy..." and Marlyn zoned out again, smiling politely.

In that moment the bus came, and Marlyn ushered the lady to walk with her.

"Darling," the lady petted Marlyn's head, "They are coming, but do not be afraid, you have the power"

"What?" Marlyn turned back, she frantically looked around but in the sea of people she was nowhere in sight.

The groceries were still in her hand, and the last words were lingering in her brain like a broken record.

With who had she just talked? Marlyn wondered, eyes wide by fear.
