welcome one, welcome all. hawumaki has returned.
i am well aware my posting schedule has gone down the toilet recently, many apologies. i have been burnt out completely and only had energy to play minecraft.
however, there is something very important today.
today is UPG's first birthday!!! (7th september)
pls ignore how bad the quality is of this, it was funnier in my head
i can't believe it's already been a year! while i'm very happy, it's a little depressing because i thought the story would be long finished by now 😕😕 but oh well!! i'm still thrilled to be able to share my work with the world :) the fact that i started this when i was just a wee little year 11 preparing to do her gcses, and now i'm going into college and doing my a levels. i can't wait for the future of UPG!!! 💕💕
anyways, to fill in the gaps of me posting canon content, here's a chapter i've wanted to do for a while now: my personal fanganronpa tips!
my sibling AvariciousAmbitions is going to be working on a more detailed version of this, and it will be a complete book dedicated to fangan and writing advice. make sure to follow them! it's really good from what i've had the pleasure of reading in advance.
i am by no means perfect, and therefore my advice is not going to be perfect. in fact, i have a chapter coming out soon (after chapter 4 is complete, which might not be so soon lol) ripping UPG to shreds and critiquing it. however, i think there is some advice i can give to you fellow readers in case you're looking to make your own fangan/improve any fangan you are currently working on. during this book i will be using my future fangan as an example (without spoiling anything lol), so sorry for all the self promo.
most of these will be geared towards effectively planning your fangan, as that's obviously the backbone of your story. bad plan? probably a bad story (unless you're very talented! which i don't doubt many of you are 💕)
and without further ado, here are my favourite fangan tips for you all!
this is going to be split into 5 sections: settings and worldbuilding, characters, the cases, the mastermind plot, and finally just some general writing tips. i'll include some advice in all
of them, but some sections may overlap slightly so i will do my best to keep this organised :)so, part one!
1. setting and worldbuilding
obviously the first decision you should make is where your fangan is set. this doesn't have to be a contemporary high school setting, keep in mind! of course nothing is stopping you from setting your fangan like that, but it seems to have been done a lot (no hate to it, even i set my fangan in a contemporary school setting).
deciding where your fangan is set is vital to the next set of tips for various reasons. it basically affects everything in your story. will the time period have any affect on the cases? for example, futuristic technology or ancient practices that may come into play with a murder. maybe your fangan is set on another planet with completely different geology and gravity? also, it could have an impact on naming your characters and creating your backstory. there's not much that the setting doesn't affect in some way, so establishing WHERE and WHEN for your fangan takes place is probably your first move.
